He was a very personable person. I lived on 115th Street between ***7th and 8th Avenue in Harlem and his sister Barbara lived on the block. He was always coming to the block and if you saw Barbara, you oftentimes saw "Peanut", his daughter, with her. He would hang out on the stoop with everybody all day long. He never came in a car or with anybody. He always took the subway to and from 116th Street and 8th Avenue. ***7th and 8th Avenue is also known as Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Boulevard and Frederick Douglas Boulevard, respectively.

I've seen interviews of Mr. Ben E. King before he passed even when he was younger. In the 80s and 90s he gave interviews . He has a nice headstone. I loved the Drifters also.

Grew up in Clw, FL. Dad listened to oldies radio in the morning. I was 12 in 1987 and won my first tickets off the radio to see Ben E King. Unfortunately, I didn’t get to go with my dad. His horrible hooker girlfriend at the time was insanely jealous of anytime my dad spent with me or my brother. (One of many life horrors turned to life lessons, yadda yadda) So the witch took me instead. It would of been a better memory for me if I had the escort I wanted that night. Many years later, Stand By Me was the song my dad and I danced to at my last wedding and will always be our song. Thank you for showing the grave of the man that sings the song that makes me cry every time. ❤️

All great songs that you mentioned. You are correct about 50 or so "drifters" over these many years. I met one of them who was dating a friend of mine for a couple of years in the late 2018 time frame. I forget his name but he was still performing solo at a night club and restaurant in San Pedro, CA. They broke up and I assume with the pandemic that performing stopped.
