I went to high school with Jim Hellwig in Indiana, he was in some of my classes in '73 and 74 (Fountain Central, High School). One semester he was in my "home room" and sat right next to me. He was very skinny and frail looking as a kid. He might have started weight lifting at the age of 11 or 12 but it sure had not shown it yet when he was 15 or 16 when I knew him! I would have never thought he'd end up that big. Had to have been steroid treatments. He was a nice kid though. Also very quiet and reserved, believe it or not!! In school he was anything but outgoing in any way. He changed immensely. I remember talking to him about how we didn't like our home room teacher because she tried to keep everyone from talking. She also had been my English/Literature teacher. Thinking back she was nice. But me and Jim didn't like her at all then. And I remember Jim fondly, he was nice.

I'm 100% with you Lamont! The Ultimate Warrior is my all time favorite wrestler. I was 9 years old when Wrestlemania 6 happened and that match was LEGENDARY! I had to wait til it came out on VHS back then because I couldn't afford the PPV back then (well, my parents couldn't.) Wrestling was to me as a kid back then almost magical and SO many of those wrestlers from the 70s 80s and 90s are no longer with us today because of the lifestyle they lived back then. It's sad to think about but an honor at the same time to have grown up during the Golden Age of Wrestling. Good times. RIP ULTIMATE WARRIOR! You live forever in the hearts of all the Warriors around the world.

Stayed at a motel where he stayed in '88, Pittsburgh, Pa. A kid knocked on my door wanting my autograph. He thought I was somebody because 2-3 others were there, can't recall who, in his eyes a guy over 6'1", plus cowboy boots, looked like a giant to him and it was my weight training days. I always thought the Warrior was about 6'4" but no way he was because we passed in the motel restaurant and I looked him near eye to eye. Found out in this video he was 6-2 so that makes sense. I'm not the type to bother someone when they're "off the clock" so to speak, so I didn't get his autograph but he did nod a greeting several times. Cool, because I really liked him. When he retired I seldom watched WWE again.

I was a Hulk Hogan fan in the 80`s. Everyone knew it was fake, but here`s what they didn`t know. The script was written as to who would win, and who would lose. These wrestlers spent so much time rehearsing the moves, so no one would get seriously hurt. Below the canvass, was a huge mat, so that when they were thrown to the canvass they wouldn`t get hurt either. It was like watching comic book heroes face off and battle it out. I went to a few world wide wresting matches, and always loved how entertaining it was, and how everyone in the stands really got into it!

Same here! I think the 80's had some of the best wrestlers. I remember the media hype of the match between Hulk Hogan and Andre the Giant. Warrior made returns to the WWF at Wrestlemania 8 and again at Wrestlemania 12 in 1996. Warrior went to WCW in 1998. Thanks for making this video. You summarized his career very well.

The only other event to kind of follow this was Starrcade 97 in WCW, when Sting vs. Hogan was hyped up to be as big as that event in Toronto. Too bad it did not go that way. That was thee match of the 90's, everyone wanted to see. Total botch job. No wonder WCW is no more. 🙄

I remember that night when he was on the mic, he kept going on and on about his life. Something about that seemed off, almost as if that WAS his own personal send off he was giving everyone. Like after all those year's of holding onto a grudge for decades, he finally released it that night. He knew that his time was up, and that was his last few moments on earth. Albeit, nobody else would had predicted that the very next day, he'd pass. I remember that taking me off guard completely. I couldn't believe he was just talking the night before, and the next day, gone. I was glad i tuned in that night to watch and listen. You could hear his emotions. He was a very emotional man with a lot to say. He never sorted out his insecurities. He held onto them, suffering in silence. I have a theory that maybe he couldn't hold onto the guilt or sorrow. So he possibly overdosed on something to ease the pain, or off himself intentionally. That caused the heart attack. Out of spite. But that's just my own speculation. And i say this with all due respect. But this is just my own theory. He was one of the top guy's back in the day's. His legacy is still being mentioned in podcasts until this very day. He'll always live on. Sadly, he passed about 18 day's before my son was born. At such a young age. Just 54. He still had his whole life to look forward to. Who knows what could had potentially been done. Maybe he could of opened up more and spoke on a podcast or something. Came up with another gig. Or helped out those in need. Though, maybe it was the family curse of dying in there 50's. Who knows. He was fun to watch and listen to. Rest Peacefully Warrior. ❤

I have heard so many stories about Warrior. Ive heard that there was a clone of him (there were 2) in wrestling back in the day. Plus he actually legally changed part of his name to "The Warrior" just to piss off Vince McMahon and also to keep him from copywriting the name and giving it to another person. And I always wondered why Gorilla Monsoon always called Bobby Heenan "The Weasel", apparently Warrior put him in the weasel suit at one point, that was before I started watching. Totally off topic, but Hogan was always my idle and my dad took me to the Pontiac Silverdome to Wrestlemania 7 when Hogan was against The Giant. As an 8yr old I couldn't believe how much bigger the wrestlers were compared to my dad.

I was a fan of the ultimate warrior, one of my favourites as a kid, once his music hits, pure excitement, see him running down to the ring, grabbing the ropes and shaking them like crazy… can’t believe it’s already been 10 years but like others, I also remember seeing him on RAW but he didn’t look right and even the commentators noticed something wasn’t right with him and next thing I know, he passed away, very shocking. RIP ultimate warrior.
