Best tutorial I’ve seen yet for these neck ropes. You are clear succinct and instruct us on where to purchase the materials. Trying to pull the fabric back right side up was a deterrent for me. Thanks for introducing the tool. Thanks!

Thank you for this clear, concise tutorial. It was very helpful. And ignore the weirdos who think they have the right to tell another human being what they can and cannot make and /or wear. And just know that not all of us black folk run around shouting "stop appropriating our culture!" at the drop of a hat. Some of us are smart enough to know that appreciation does not equal appropriation. Unfortunately, some seem to have missed the memo on that. Thanks again!
@biancaland49518 жыл бұрын
I'm not white nor black but I think everyone can look good on it,There are black people with light skin too so by your logic they don't look good because they don't have a dark color. People like things from other cultures,that's life.I'm going to wear them because I like them.The world is becoming a melting pot and you are going to have a bad time every time you see a non-black wearing something African. People that are blinded by color are those who will never be at peace.Also just because you're black doesn't mean you can call her n*gger( That word that you guys claim to hurt you so much). note: It's "you're" not "your"

Thanks for the clear and very interesting video. The question I have is that I'll like to know if the fabric has to be cut straight (following the thread) or at bias. My mom used to do things similar to this and always use to tell me that fabric turns better when cut to the bias. TKS a lot! Regards!
@giddyupworkshop46849 жыл бұрын
Fanny Moreno First of all I'm so glad that you found the video useful. Your Mom was absolutely right that the fabric will generally turn easier on the bias. With this size of cotton tube, however, it really doesn't matter that much. Plus cutting on the grain conserves fabric so much better than on the bias. Happy sewing!

Love the video, thanks for sharing. Question, if I don't have a sewing machine will it work as well sewing by hand? Or should I try gluing the fabric? Your input would be appreciated. Thanks!
@giddyupworkshop46848 жыл бұрын
Good question. Sewing by hand would absolutely work, it would just take a long time. Gluing would be much faster but not as neat and perhaps harder to get the accurate size you need. I would definitely experiment on some scrap fabric first. Good luck!

Beautiful work @giddyupworkshop. Please advise measurement in inches for sewing the seam. I understand if using a 1/2 inch rope, to cut out fabric at 2 3/4 inch wide but wasn't sure about seam allowance as I don't want it to be too loose or tight for rope, what would you recommend? Thank you :)
@giddyupworkshop46848 жыл бұрын
Thank you! In this particular case I used a 3/8" seam allowance, but you'd be surprised how much that can vary based on the weave of your fabric and the density of the rope. Start with that and make your appropriate adjustments from there. Good luck!
@giddyupworkshop46849 жыл бұрын
@Kingsley Danso Thanks for watching! I just used a regular exact box cutter knife, but any blade sharp enugh to cut the rope would work.

@giddyupworkshop46848 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much Audra. These were approx 18" long, but it's best to start a bit longer when you're starting out as you can always trim it down if it's too long. Have fun making! :)

@Hifeur8 жыл бұрын
ok thank you so much, I hope I'll find the equivalent in France. ;)

That particular rope is about 1/2" (15mm), but you can use virtually any size, just measure your fabric to fit around.

Hi! Does it matter what kind of rope you use? Is polypropolene ok?
@giddyupworkshop468410 жыл бұрын
Good question. Any kind of rope will work, but some work better based on their drape around your neck as well how easily the pull your the fabric loop. Some rope I've tried catches unless the fabric is too loose, and others slide super easy but feel too stiff. Experiment and see!
@NineMind910 жыл бұрын
giddyupworkshop I tried it and it work great! So excited :D The only issue I had was that my copper tubing tarnished before I even got to wear it. Is there any way to avoid this?
@giddyupworkshop468410 жыл бұрын
Hurray for success in your project! I'm not quite sure what to tell you about the copper - maybe it was some kind of alloy mix? The ones that I use haven't tarnished like that, there will be a rather lovely patina over time but that's after months of regular wear. I'm guessing there's a cleaner you can get for it.

Thanks it's lovely, I think I Wil practice it, but we're can I get rope
@giddyupworkshop46849 жыл бұрын
+Flavia Lawrence Just go to your local hardware store for rope. Different rope will drape nicer - you'll have to handle and/or test some. I'm lucky that I live on the coast and have a local boat supply shop with loads of different rope-by-the-foot. Even a decent-sized Dollar Store tends to stock small bundles of rope. Good luck!

May I ask Can this method be used for much longer styles? for example a neck to waist length or longer necklace. Would the rope use pose as heavy weight factor on a thats necklace considerably longer?
@giddyupworkshop46848 жыл бұрын
You can totally do any length you wish, you may just need to stitch several lengths of fabric tubes together. The rope weight could be a factor, some are denser/heavier than others so try different ones. Perhaps a thinner rope is better if it's quite long - have fun with it!
