I'm glad you made this video because I feel the same way too, eugene rabkin (Stylezeitgeist guy) has written a lot of articles surrounding over consumerism and buying habits in the youth fashion community. So many youtubers have normalised over buying and rotating wardrobes probably not intentionally but I'm starting to relise how unhealthy mentally and financially it is to overconsume in fashion and the glorification of pick up vids. more people need to understand fashion involves so many interesting concepts that don't simply surround just buying loads of clothes, there are ways to participate in this hobby that dont involve constant pick ups.

Thank you, totally agree with what you said. You put my whole video better and more succinctly hahaha. I've never heard of him but I will check him out! I think a lot of youtubers default to showing clothes and pickups and stuff because its an easy way to talk about designers, trends, etc. (and it does legitimately help people find new things/make decisions). I think some people aren't used to making fashion content outside of those type of videos because they aren't used to seeing that there are other options. So hopefully I can show them and prove it can be done!

the intro and outro KILLED me and i agree with you with a lot of these points - for some reason, right now all over social media, it's always consumerism > reuism(? is that even a word) what always impresses me the most is when ppl use the basics in innovative ways that make u go 'wow', i had that piece and i never thought about using it that way and we're always preached "quality>quantity", but man is it so hard when u see a sale or something that's "cheap", just gotta have the voice of reason to be like bro, are you gonna wear it because everybody likes it? or that it's on sale? or do you genuinely see urself wearing it idk man i'm just ranting, i think social media plays such a huge factor in how we think - it might be good to just shut down the instagram/tiktok/etc for a while and come up with what you can in your closet yep anyways great video as always - sending much love to ur channel

Wow, thanks for the long comment! Lots of points here. The reuism? Part is interesting because I feel like there are a lot of sustainable or thrift hauls now too, which don't get me wrong is absolutely a better way to shop, but they don't actually stop making hauls or pickups. Still, if it makes people more cognizant in shopping, I guess I cant hate on it. Yeah quality>quantity is one of those things that's easy to say and hard to do for the average consumer. Cost plays a huge part and most people, even myself, struggle or are unwilling to simply pay that much. Especially when you see a cheaper alternative or knockoff of a more popular piece for 1/10th the price. I think social media plays a big part in it for sure, it can be good or bad (probably mostly bad). If it can make you look at different styles or ways to wear your preexisting pieces or give u inspiration its good but definitely it promotes a lot of buying. Sorry for the long reply, I could write a million more things or explain more deeply past my initial brief reaction but its probably better not to incase I say smth wrong lol Thanks again for your comment :)

hahaha nw - your video sparked the discussion so i just thought i'd type out what i was thinking at the time! oops. i meant reuism as in just sustainability? reusing clothing items and repurposing! i think thrifting gone mainstream is pretty good, since it helps fuel second-hand shops and it brings new life to old clothes as well. if a portion of shopping goes back to the second-hand community, i think it makes a big difference - and this is probably the reason, that "vintage" and depop shops are so popular as well rn as well. if you ever get the chance, i would love to see a "capsule closet" video - where you keep a small amount of pieces and try for a week or something how many fits you can make! i think for myself, with the way that i was brought up, "cheaping" out on things, which isn't always a bad thing, was kind of instilled with me. so, it feels wrong whenever i spend money on a piece that costs a lot of money - and i think that a lot of people are the same way. i think it's partially because you feel as though you receive more value spending money on three pieces, then one quality piece. wow. maths. i think hauls and the excitement of buying is kind of like a chain-reaction. when someone holds something you want, you feel like you're missing out as well - inducing the "shopping-effect" HAHAHA anyways, sorry for the long paragraph, but that's my opinion and i dont mind if you write the million things - i like the discussion!
