Thanks for your tutorial, can you make an video about the new After Effects version (23.2) which has an optimized ACES workflow?

What is the difference between using adjustment layer and applying OpenColorIO+Color profile directly on EXR files?
@willinmotion2 ай бұрын
@@petrholusa5855 There isn't one, but an adjustment layer can help you do multiple shots a Ross the timeline in one go

And the week after Adobe implemented ACES into the latest AE Beta ...but great tutorial nonetheless...keep it up.

I hear its not actually in the beta yet, either way, when it is I will be doing another tutorial.

Thanks a lot for this quick guide! I was wondering if you could also tell us what render settings you use for animations in after effects/media encoder
@willinmotion2 жыл бұрын
99% of all videos I make are rendered first to prores422 from after effects and then converted with media encoder to h.264 Vimeo preset, I usually up the bitrate to 18, occasionally higher, and sometimes I'll then upscale these to 4k with Topaz AiVideo if needed

@@willinmotion is it possible to directly render out to mp4? When i tried the video looked different from what i saw in after effects.
@willinmotion Жыл бұрын
@@lexxandera Are you going through media encoder?
@lexxandera Жыл бұрын
@@willinmotion it only works on windows. I render out of ae directly, which works on a mac. For now. Will be probably implemented in media encoder sooner or later.

this Utility thing folder doesnt work for me in AE 2023 When I type open color IO nothing shows up, maybe there is a tick box for those scripts to be visible to enable it somwhere in preferences that I am missing?
@willinmotion Жыл бұрын
The way after effects handles this in 2023 is changing to a more native in-built approach. It might be worth looking into that, but I think you will need to install the OpenColorIO plugin if you do not have it. fnordware.blogspot.com/2012/05/opencolorio-for-after-effects.html

I would suggest manually picking the aces config file you want to use, so place it anywhere

That's really useful! Thanks! Was the workflow changed with the new c4d version? I mean, c4d 2023
@iamwilljane2 жыл бұрын
Hey, the workflow largely stays the same, the changes allow you to preview different settings in the render view, so no need to switch the two render options I believe, I will record an updated tutorial soon

@willinmotion2 ай бұрын
@@johnnyguitar33 Sorry for the delay, on export you'll want to go to the color tab when setting the format, and choose ACES > sRGB

Hey - thanks for this short but precise tut! Question - is there a workflow for when using AOV passes? Or can we just work as normal under the adjument layers you have shown? Also when importing in the AOVs do we need to do anything to the colour management settings?
@willinmotion2 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, this is where things can get complicated, here is a discussion on the subject community.acescentral.com/t/valid-c4d-redshift-after-effects-aces-workflow/3451/7 Thanks to Jay at www.chroma.london/ for this link. Basically it doesn't change in principle, but some AOVs may be ACES Raw and not AcesCG.

If I pull any image off of the internet I and apply the ACES to sRGB adjustment layer to it it has the same effect (not blowing out the highlights almost instantly). This begs the question: Why bother with ACES?
@willinmotion2 жыл бұрын
It's definitely not as simple as use it because it's better, but if you have a scene with lots of bright lights, I don't think any adjustment layer is going to be able to correct the over exposure, especially is you are use real world light values
@Gabe799992 жыл бұрын
@@willinmotion I purposefully chose a picture of a steel ball with near blown out highlights in the reflection. If I don't apply the ACES to sRGB to it and bump the exposure up it blows out immediately. If I apply the ACES to sRGB I can crank the exposure all the way up and it will never blow out. I'll link the pic I used. Try it yourself! filmschoolrejects.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/shiny-ball-visual-effects.jpg I'm just trying to make sense of all of the jumbled information out there about ACES and the many different variations of workflows that people have. I'm beginning to think much of it is inaccurate.
