Fast boat

I am finally finished the modified 5hp and achieved my speed goal.
I’m very surprised what I was able to squeeze from a little 5hp motor.

Cheers bro, The further you can get the weight back (once on the plane) in a little boat like a tinny or a little race boat normally the quicker you go. It allows the hull to get air under it, also less hull in the water. If you sit up front it buries the nose and slows the whole thing down. That’s why we see a lot of young tinny kids around here both sitting on the back seat while flying along 😂 That prop is a chopper, you can see my motor is trimmed pretty square to the keel too so I’m not wasting thrust and trying to put it all into speed. Trimming a motor out also lifts the hull out and you gain speed if you cannot move your weight aft like on a bigger boat. Cheers bro 🍻 Looking forward to your next vid on the chainsaw long tail.

Just sayin, If the propeller was deeper say 4-5 inches from the surface wouldn't you be able to go even faster? Looks as if half the prop is in the air. wonder what else can you modify, steering and windshield? btw amazing little dingy

Hi mate, Yeah, it feels like it should be faster with more prop in the water but it’s way slower. More prop in the water = more drag. It’s a surface piercing propeller (blew my mind that they are so much faster many years ago when I saw them) At speed water gets pretty hard so you don’t need all the blades in to crest hood thrust, removing blades from the water means less drag so you can increase pitch. Also less gearcase in the water is less drag. Cheers 🍻 Aussie Boat Guy 😎

😂😂 It’s 100% acrylic, probably why I need to keep taking my beanie off, it gets too hot, then it inches. Got one made out of alpaca fur, too good for boating though. 😁😁

My guess is 18 knots. You say modded but is it ported or is the engine block stock?

Hi mate, Over 25 knots. Yep, check the other vids, it’s has ported exhaust and transfer ports, intake ported, high comp head, larger carburetor and the modified gearcase. The only thing I could do extra is an external exhaust but I don’t want the noise (would get pulled over where I live) Cheers 🍻 Aussie Boat Guy 😎

Hi mate, I reckon it’s about 7hp but the thing is it makes that 7hp at a higher rpm (about 7000rpm) so that means it spins the props faster so more speeeed 😁 Cheers 🍻 Aussie Boat Guy 😎

Is there a way to lighten the piston to make more revs (trying to balance it out with balance weight on the crankshaft) and is there a Hemi piston upgrade? Id be funny 😂

Yeah, I know, but it goes over 25 knots. The rules are a little grey in that area but it’s because a stock 5hp (they are assuming) goes pretty close to 10 knots max speed. Trust me, that motor is over 5hp now plus the waterways authority would pull me over for sure at that speed. One quick look at the motor they will see the modified gearcase, low water pickups, race prop etc. Gotta do the right thing, or at least try too 😁 Cheers 🍻 Aussie Boat Guy 😎

Hi Aussie Boat Guy! I've really enjoyed this series. I'd be interested if you decide to do anything similar with a 4 stroke in future. I'm limited to a single cylinder 6hp 4stroke by my desires for weight/convenience/noise/fuel consumption, but more speed would be more fun.

I have very much enjoyed your series of videos on the little 5hp. I'm struggling with the physics of the modified water pick up. To put it in Layman's terms ... it pees while at idle with no issues? Very much looking forward to the 9.8 ... will it be a 56 pounder (25 Kg)? thanks again!

Hi mate, Thanks so much, really appreciate your comments 👌 Yeah, I was a little concerned that at idle the water would not draw up the long extra tube and to the water pump, to my surprise, it has no issues at all, pumps plenty of water even at idle (idle was my concern) Even when you start the motor at idle it draws cooling water no problems. Yep, the 9.8hp I’m doing is the 25kg two stroke. Already made a lot of modified parts, don’t know if any will work yet but pretty excited 😊 Cheers 🍻 Aussie Boat Guy 😎

Man you've got to almost getting her up to 30-31knots so iam going to guess the highest top speed achieved now is 30.59 knots and when you backed just of wot she was just cruising comfy at 28 knots .

Hi mate, Pretty close, Have not yet got it over 30 knots though. My aim was over 25 knots, which it does now. It does cruise very well just off full throttle. Over 30 knots with my modded 5hp on that boat is achievable, probably just need to take the safety gear out of the boat.
