The irony of small movies that don't get enough attention is that videos on them don't tend to either. But now I have a movie to go watch.

I just watched this on Netflix in the US. I hadn’t heard a single thing about this film and it was, in my opinion, one of the best dystopian sci fi films I’ve ever seen. I’m rewatching it with my mom and daughter this afternoon. You did a great job on this analysis. You have a new sub.

Netflix didn’t tell me about Fast Color until two months ago. I am angry I didn’t get any advertising for it or hear about it. It’s beautiful Edit : And I didn’t even know that there would be a Tv series either. I hope they get the original actresses.

I watched this flick when it hit streaming on 4k, some time ago. It always was in the back of my head and I wanted to revisit it again. I appreciate that you're really the only one who has tried to do an analysis video, as I've been thinking about doing one myself because I'm not sure how this film can't be influential to other starting filmmakers who want to do more personal sci-fi/ superhero type stories from different perspectives.

i love that you frequently talk about unsung but amazing films and shows - but knowing that you are one of the few people on Earth seemingly who doesn’t think Catwoman (2004) was that bad??? queen shit. how we went from that to the military sponsored superhero movie industrial complex (which notably Fast Color goes against by having a military agency as an antagonistic force only) is beyond me.

Such an overlooked gem. Besides the white daddy cop, I really loved the film. Felt like a spiritual sister to Eve's Bayou, and Daughters of the Dust in the way it was abt Black womanhood, motherhood and legacy

Thank you for this video. I deeply enjoyed Fast Color when I saw it a few years ago, and still get upset when I think about the distribution situation. This film was so well done and well acted with an incredible intergenerational story about Black women that I so related to. I literally am always recommending it people.

I'm not a indie movie watcher usually but I enjoyed it. I remember some reviews saying the pacing is slow and while I sort of agree, it was definitely worth the watch. The performances and the cinematography were amazing and I also agree with you talking about how it captures the mundance aspects of life. God the price gouging and running out of supplies in stores is too real for comfort though. Nice video !

I just watch Fast colors and I loooved it. Many years ago I watched the trailer but never saw it on the cinema or on any plataform (I'm from Argentina, so many Indi films never make it here). It's a beautifull, deep and soulfull story. You should watch Station Eleven, it isn't a slice of life exactly, parts of it are. It explains why the world ended. But it goes very deep in the impact it had in the characters, in the interpersonal relatioships. Also, Catwoman is an amazing movie, no questions ask

"Representation really does matter," says Hart, and she recalls two moments that drive that point home. The first was when her young son asked the nanny on set why everyone was looking at his mom, and the answer was "because she's in charge." The other happened at a screening with black girls in the audience who rushed Sidney afterward to praise her performance and character. A young black woman told Hart that she wished she had had this movie when she was their age.

The gatekeepers said they didn't know who this movie was for... blatant women empowerment themes, but they didn't know. As a black woman who loves fantasy-esque genres and loves to see beautiful black women on screen, you don't have to tell me this is for me, just put "me" as the leading character but definitely market this to women. Black women are asked to relate to non-black characters all the time, put that shoe on the other foot for a change.
@Aishyo2 жыл бұрын
Right! everyone is expected to relate to a white male, that is seen as the default. You can relate to fish, toys, cars and whatever inanimate object Pixar wants, but a human being with different skin is confusing. Make it make sense

Omg I watched Fast Color a while ago and haven't thought about it for a while but now I think I should rewatch! It's such a lovely film it's exciting to see someone talk abput it!!! Also idk if it's exactly what you're looking for but? Have you seen The Girl With All The Gifts? Kind of a zombie movie and the protagonist is a young black girl who is like? Half zombie? (The plot surrounds children who were found in their mother's wombs while thrir mothers were bitten and so they have a unique human/zombie dna thing?) They're being studied by humansand idk? i think there are some lovely.moments in the film (as well as more intense violence of course) but moments that show the new life and world everyone is experiencing, and the way that the protagonist moves through and sees thw world? Also i wouldn't say it' necessarily a recommendation but I do love the way Adventure Time handles its post apocalyptic setting. It's a long and varied show, but I do overall really love it and seeing the progression and development of continuing life between the silly/wacky moments... :')

I have seen this movie recently and then read about the failed promotion. SMH at these daft film studios that waste opportunities to showcase original stories and diverse talent. The same happened with Beyond the Lights as well, the director was turned down by every production company because the movie features suicide (and two people of colour in lead roles). Thanks for the informative vid, just a small technical correction: Mbatha-Raw is mixed race.

Just watched it last night because my wife wanted to. Im shocked they called it a superhero movie. I loved it. I was surprised at how many things hit me. Her looking at the wall of photos/history. Something many of us don't have. The written history. The allegories for just being black in America and trying to protect your kids. I liked how the power was strong, but not violent. The end with Bo was so powerful but not in am "angry black woman kills evil white scientists" way. She calmly strips them of their power and allows herself to be taken. She could have REALLY ruined their day.

This movie looks amazing and I HOPE I can find it somewhere, so far it seems completely impossible to get hold of in NL though, can't even search for it because I get ink, paper, burnable DVDs, pens, etc... I'd love to support it, but looks like I'll HAVE to go the "frowned upon route", like with SO MANY films I wanted to see... I'm still mad at MOON (2009)'s release and how I kept waiting and waiting until I realized it was never gonna see the cinemas where I lived... Hell it hardly ran in cinemas in the US at the time. This film seems to have met a similar fate and that's so heartbreaking... It's not even on Netflix here! :( Thanks for this wonderful review, I'm really curious about the "feel" of this movie now and wonder how it compares to other deconstructed "superhero" films like LOGAN or slow-burn post-apocalypse things like The Road.

@@Aishyo Assassination Nation was even more egregious, it had a scheduled release date here which was just silently cancelled after the film failed to perform in its opening weekend in the US. It's like going out with grace imo. I was hoping to buy Fast Color on KZbin but it is not available. One of my top 10 films I so wanted to watch it again. But I found your amazing insight which has left me saddened at the stupidity of 'white' American film distributor. We are just 10 years away from 2032 when our planet moves from 3rd dimensional life (you film distributors) to 5th dimensional life (the same as the age of Atlantis). Children will be able to materialize objects and levitate (read Diana Cooper, Birthing a New Civilization) and her videos together with Tim Wilde on this wonderful media - KZbin. If you know Julia Hart please tell her about the planets rebirthing. Fast Color is a glimpse of the future - just 10 years away.) Best wishes Kevin (a white man by the way :-)
