Jake, would it be worth it to degas post pour and leave Alumilite Amazing Mold Maker in the chamber until its fully cured? Or, would any potential bubbles expand once ambient pressure is restored? thoughts?
@JakeThompson3 жыл бұрын
I think it would over flow the forms they are in. I didn’t do anything with them and it was fine, but I think having them in the pressure pot after the pour would probably make it awesome!

Great video (block mold)! Couple questions...How do you find the rigidity of your molds being that large? I noticed in your other mold video you mentioned the different numbers...would plat 45 be best? Just wouldn’t want my mold to flex too much (resulting in spilling) when transferring to my pressure pot. Also, I have the ability to degas. Would you recommend one over the other (the quick vs the 24 hour one you degas)? Thanks again Jake...such informative videos!!!
@JakeThompson3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching Chris.. the blanks that came out of these are just fine.. this is a lot of silicone and more expensive to use the fast curing silicone.. This stuff is a hardness of 20 where the hardness of plat 25 is better.. the plat 25 is better for this in my opinion, but the fast cure molds work just fine.

I have a couple more questions. Do you have any advice for cleaning up flashing? I also wondered if you see any lines from the leftover silicone you pour on the second mold (that drys) and the fresh silicone you mix and pour over it? If its invisible and no seam that would be great!
@JakeThompson2 жыл бұрын
Silicone sticks to silicone, so if you do a second pour to top it off .. as long as the color is the same, you can’t tell at all.. I cut flashing off with a razor blade. Pretty easy.

I'm a bit of a nightmare when it comes to wasting silicone- I hate doing it- I'm getting better.... but..... you adding the leftover silicone after your first pour into the second mold- hypothetically- how long do you have spare to pour the second lot of silicone over that ? whats the maximum time you'd have? 30 mins? 60 mins? Did you use mold release for the silicone, or is the HDPE/silicone slippery enough without it? Have you used the fast silicone to duplicate something else like a flat emblem? Either you did not mention bubbles/pits, or I missed it. ;) IMO when you are making pen/turning blanks bubbles/pits in the mold are not a big deal cuz they are going to get turned out. The definitive test would be modeling and molding something that is not going to be machined or otherwise worked. BTW -- single ;) #madeittotheend !
@JakeThompson3 жыл бұрын
Good Job!! #madeittotheend 😀 I do use mold release but the HDPE is pretty slippery anyway.. I definitely use it on the letters on the front. I have the same opinion on the turning blanks not needing to be smooth. I will be doing some molds of eyeballs here in the near future, that will be a good test. 👍👍

@freelancemotorsportsllc28262 жыл бұрын
