French twists can be tricky styles, especially if you have long or slippery hair. But try it this way, and you'll see how quickly and easily a French twist can happen in your hair, no matter the type!
I've secured my French twist three different ways:
-Once with a Flexi-Clip
-Once with a set of U-Pins
-Once with a pair of hairsticks

Nice job....my favorite is with a French side comb holding the roll....looks so pretty with the comb nestled into the edge of the roll. You can also have fun with LOTS of stick-shaped items to hold the roll: pencils look cure in the workplace....chopsticks can be painted and decorated....and big "U" shaped pins placed vertically work, too. I often use several of the shorter "spin pins" as well....VERY SECURE!!! Thanks so much for your tips.(Sorry, but the music is a little loud and is distracting when trying to concentrate on what is being said).

I am not sure what I a doing wrong, when I twist it, it doesn't make the nice French twist shape its this weird figure 8 shape and lumpy. I think my hair might be too thick.

Debra, I'm just seeing that I never replied to this a year ago. Yikes! I'm so sorry. If you want to try again, here are some thoughts. Your layers up front can make a French twist in thick hair difficult. They'll probably fall out of the twist. You can still do it, but you'll need bobbies to secure those layers back. When you twist the hair up after making the first loop, you might need to guide your hair up the twist to hide the 8 shape you're getting. That should help smooth it out. Wishing you the best!

Anytime you have layers, you'll probably need to use more bobby pins to tuck in the sections that aren't long enough to reach the twist once you get the main part secured. I've seen a couple videos here on KZbin with tricks for French twists in shorter hair. Those might give you more ideas than I can. Best wishes!

Can't twist my hair like this. I have just below the shoulders length hair. Please show how to do this length of hair.

Hi Kimberly! I actually use this same technique on hair your length. You'll hook the hair as if you were starting a ponytail, just like I do, and then do the twist up, wrapping your hair. The trick for your hair length is that you'll stop twisting as soon as your ponytail end is hidden inside the twist. You won't need to wind your hair up and around like I do for my really long hair. Does that help?
