Thanks for the experienced review. Just got a 2016 fz 09 used 4500miles stock practically new. Super pumped. I’ve been desert riding since I was 6 mostly Yamaha YZ two strokes. Thanks for cutting through the amateur rumors of the fz 09.

this bike is a beast out of the crate. I picked up my 09 last March. put about 4k+ miles on it last season. I kept it stock other than some cosmetic changes. (fender eliminator, bar end mirrors, shorty shifter and brake) this year will come the full akrapovic, ecu chip, upgrade the chain etc. you can upgrade the sprocket but you really don't need to. it really is a torque monster as it. I might go so far as to get a stage 2 tune but that's it. it really doesn't need it. fantastic machine!

+Charles Griffin (Griffin854) Hey, thanks for the positive comment. I had a riding buddy who owned an FZ-07 last year, loved it and currently rides the 09. The 07' is a fantastic motorcycle and it's hard to go wrong with either one. The FZ-09 just takes all of the best qualities of the FZ-07' and kicks it up a notch in terms of power and torque delivery. You also get ride by wire throttle and selectable power mode function. And the Triple cylinder motor with an exhaust sounds like a freakin' F1 car. If your thinking about making the switch up to the FZ-09, I hope this video helps in your decision making. Appreciate you checking out the channel and keep me updated if you end up getting one. Thanks man, ride safe.

appreciate you spending time to make a vid and show what you've done to your bike! Iv got 2000 miles on my 15 fz-09 and grew up riding a drz400 and am in love with the bike. video opened my mind to all the things that can be done to it already! I live in CA and just took out the EVAP canister because our state likes to add on extra emission controls and gave the bike a hard time for hot starts. Purchasing the m4 pipe and will get the engine covers soon. Super fun bike for all the endless mountain roads I basically have in my backyard on the west coast. hope to add more mods in the future cus these parts get a little spendy!

I am in the Greensboro | High Point area so we are very close to the foothills and can be in the mountains within an hour. We have been riding that area for 15 years so we know a few good roads. Raleigh is a little farther away from those kind of roads, mainly not as much elevation changes, but you should ride out and join us sometime. Thanks for the view and for checking out the channel.

Great Review and good points mate- Especially regarding the shocks, I am bit over 6ft and 100Kgs (225 lbs) and have no real issues with the stock suspension although I have it maxed out front and rear, where I live there are no shops that can properly set up shocks on my behalf so I go on how it feels to me when riding. Unless you are riding on the track and need to corner hard at 150+ kms/hr then back on the throttle hard the stock shocks are fine for an experienced rider and I ride on roads that are nowhere near as good as most. The complaints over KZbin and forums are as Derek said are most likely from novice riders. Ride on!
@fastfz0976
@fastfz0976 8 жыл бұрын
+Bikes n More Hey, thanks for your comment. I agree with your points about the suspension. For a track day rider aftermarket suspension on this motorcycle is highly recommended in my opinion. But for most street riders, even fast street riders in the mountains, I think once stiffened up a bit the stock suspension is just fine. I think a majority of riders have that negative view because they ride the bike with the suspension still set to the factory setting which is way too soft. The FZ-09 is just a great motorcycle all around. Appreciate you watching and thanks for checking out the channel.

@fastfz0976 8 жыл бұрын
+JDx2011 Hey thanks for watching. The FZ-09 really does feel like a big angry Supermoto. The wide tapered aluminum bars and the rearsets positioning give the rider a lot of leverage when the rider gives directional input on the bike making it very easy to ride fast and comfortably doing so. The FZ-09 is an incredibly capable motorcycle, worth a look if your in the market. Appreciate you checking out the channel.

We ride southern VA a lot too. Eastern TN, western NC, and southern VA in my opinion, has the best sport bike riding in the country and some of the best riders. That would be sweet if you end up pulling the trigger on a new FZ. It's an amazing, badass motorcycle, especially in the mountains. Appreciate you checking out the channel and ride safe.

@fastfz0976
@fastfz0976 8 жыл бұрын
+CycleCruza What up Cruza. If you like the power on your 1000RR, you would get bored with the FZ-07. It's a great motorcycle but it's targeted as more of an entry level naked bike. I have owned an R6, a track only Suzuki GSXR 1000, and ridden dozens of different motorcycles, I used to work at a dealership and got to ride a lot of bikes. I think the FZ-09 is hands down the most FUN motorcycle I've ever owned. Imagine this, take the upright seating position you love on your WR250 and combine that with all the down low torque and midrange power you love on your CBR1000, and that's the Yamaha FZ-09. You need to ride the bike to understand how good this motor is. It's insanely good and so easy to ride. Appreciate you checking out the channel. Later bud.

Fast FZ09 Hey I just subbed, good to hear your opinion on this bike. I was two seconds from buying the fz-09 when it first came out but couldn't pass up a left-over new blade for 9k. However, this fz-09 would be still great to get. The sound on that FZ-07 is sic though, I wish the fz-09 had that twin sound. I'm going to test ride both bikes but I have feeling the FZ-09 will win me over. Thanks for the reply, appreciate it.
@fastfz0976
@fastfz0976 8 жыл бұрын
CycleCruza Ah thanks man, appreciate that. Like I said the 07' is a great bike. But the Triple on the FZ-09 with an aftermarket exhaust sounds like an F1 car when its revving. Sounds soo good! And the Triple has more bottom and midrange power when compared to the parallel twin on the 07. I think you are like me and that you love a lot of bottom end and midrange power. There are some roads we ride in the mountains where you are going pretty fast and do get into to top end power. But low to mid is what you need on the streets. The FZ-09 delivers and its comfortable too. You have a bug out van, a Honda CBR1000RR, a dual sport,...all that's missing is a badass StreetFigher. lol Later man.

Just bought my 2016 Raven black a little over a week ago and I've got about 450 miles on it so far. :) I'm breaking it in per the manual so I haven't truly gotten on it yet but that was the first thing I noticed, the low end torque this thing has. @fastfz0976 8 жыл бұрын
+Nickel Reed Hey congrats on your new bike purchase! That's awesome. I saw the Raven edition at the dealership the other day and it looks pretty sick. The bottom end torque is super strong right off the bottom and pulls like a freight train all the way to redline. The torque curve is so flat and just a blast to ride. You'll love it. We ride out of Greensboro / High Point area.

@fastfz0976 8 жыл бұрын
+Philip Mann Hey man, thanks for the view and positive comment. The FZ09 is really versatile and could easily be set up more as a freeway commuter if that's the build route you are considering. The linear, always on tap power and torque makes this bike get through commuter traffic with ease, and a lot of fun too. The FJR1300 is a phenomenal motorcycle in its own rite but the weight difference in comparison to the FZ is huge. Check one out if you get a chance. Yeah that can happen. Most guys use a Canyon Dancer bar harness with tie down straps to the trailer. The best option is the Pit Bull trailer support system. +Frank Considine Hey man, thanks for the comment and thanks for watching. I agree, naked bikes are awesome. Just an absolute hoot to ride. I have ridden a 1290 R SuperDuke. One of my riding buddies owned one in 2014 when they came out, that bike can be seen in several older videos on my channel, it will be in the video title. That big KTM is amazing. Turn in is obviously heavier and requires more rider input than my FZ, but the power and electronics package are first rate. He traded in that bike and got a KTM 1190 Adventure, rode that for a while, then traded again and got a 15' Yamaha FZ-09 after he rode mine. He still has the FZ-09, and likes it even more than the SuperDuke. Appreciate you checking out the channel and ride safe.

I have a 2014 fz09 all stock except the fender kit but I'm getting an exuast for it in like 2 weeks but yo, nice info about the bike man I like your style of riding...I live in CT so we do a lot of mountain riding as well in Vermont and new Hampshire! love mountain riding, I had a question about the Q3's...I had them on my supermoto and they grip fuckin beautiful but wore down fast, how many miles do you get out of your Q3's?
@fastfz0976
@fastfz0976 8 жыл бұрын
Thanks man, appreciate you watching and checking out the channel. I run Q3s for the most part on the street. I don't commute on this bike whatsoever. It's solely ridden in the mountains or at the track. But with Q3s mounted, after about 2K miles or so, the sides are completely shot. The center tread is pretty deep when I take them off, but the vast majority of riders don't ride like that. Most guys get double or triple that mileage if there ride in town or commute. My favorite tire is the Pirelli Diablo SuperCorsa SP V2. I run them on the track and have ridden in the mountains with them a handful of times. I love the Q3 but the Pirelli makes the Q3 feel a bit shitty in terms of overall grip. The Pirelli is a much softer compound but tire life if greatly reduced for sure. The Dunlop is a badass tire for the street, good value too.

One of the guys I ride with had a 2014 KTM 1290 SD and I got to spend quite a bit of time on it. That bike was insane. He got tired of the payment on a $16,000 bike and traded it in on a 2015 FZ09. Having ridden the 1290 SuperDuke on a regular basis when Jim owned it, the power was obviously stronger than the FZ but the 09 will run circles around that bike in terms of handling. The FZ09 will change lines mid corner with the ease of a bicycle. The way my FZ is setup it'll hang will a 1290 on corner exit speed with ease. The 1290 feels much slower on initial tip in and the weight is noticeable in tight stuff. But the electronics package on the SuperDuke is incredible. You can have a built FZ09 cheaper than the stock 1290. I like them both but the handling of the FZ is superior to the horsepower of the big Super Duke in my opinion. Thanks for checking out the channel and ride safe.

+Fast FZ09 Yea it's definitely faster, pretty much same motor bored 100 more cc's. As much as like the SD I rather have he FZ09 the cost alone is almost a no brainier. I own a home outside of Raleigh maybe next season I can link up with you guys and hit some nice roads be good to get out of NYC

Pmason718 I agree with you. The FZ09's cost is a no brainer. I can't think of a motorcycle that offers more bang for the buck. The SuperDuke is badass though! I am in the High Point | Greensboro area so if you have a place in Raleigh hit me up next season and we'll show you some AMAZING roads. Thanks for checking out the channel and keep me updated if you get the FZ. Hold it down in NYC and ride safe.

Hey man! Great video! I also ride an FZ-09 and love it. I'm looking at adding an exhaust and the basic Bazzaz Kit. Do you need the Bazzaz map selector switch to change maps or can you use the stock mode selector to change maps?
@fastfz0976
@fastfz0976 9 жыл бұрын
+KarasuGT Hey, appreciate the comment and thanks for watching the video. That's cool your adding an exhaust and Fuel Control to your FZ. I had two maps installed, a full power map and then a slightly detuned map or a "wet map." Both are set up to run in conjunction with the bike's "A-mode" power selection. If you plan to run multiple maps or to have the option to run multiple maps in the future, you need to install the Map Selector switch to change maps on the fly. If you simply want to install your exhaust, Bazzaz,, and I recommend block off plates if you do that, and you were to have the bike dyno tuned, as long as you did not run multiple maps you have no need for the handlebar switch. You could get the parts installed, tuned, and then just ride it. The FZ09 responds very well to bolt on aftermarket parts and really wakes up once properly tuned. Thanks again for checking out the channel and keep me updated when you get it set up. Sounds exciting, modifications are a fun part of the hobby. Ride safe.

+dogleg dave Hey, thanks for the view and comment. That's pretty cool to hear your trading in on a new FZ-09. You'll love it. It's just a very capable motorcycle and an absolute hoot to romp around on. I do like the Yoshimura R-77. It's a proven exhaust in terms of power, fitment, and overall build quality. There are tons of great exhaust manufactures but Yosh is hard to beat. It makes no difference on break in concerning the timing of the exhaust install. I had my exhaust on the bike before it ever left the dealership. Just break the bike in properly by varying your revs, avoiding long idle times, and doing a fresh oil change after the first 500-600 miles. Then ride it however you want. Hope this helps and congrats on getting a new bike. Appreciate you checking out the channel.

Most everything you did was engine related and you didn't so something about the mushy suspension? Try going around some of the bumpy curves on the back-roads around here at high speed and see if the FZ09 will stay on the road.

+gwwayner Hey man, thanks for watching. I'm not one of those riders who thinks the suspension is bad. If you have time, watch a few of the ride videos on my channel and the bike handles just fine. The only reason I would upgrade the suspension is if this bike does regular track time in the spring. We ride the mountains of southern VA, eastern TN, and western NC.

Hey man nice bike. I have a question for ya and hope to get a response... I noticed the switch you have to control which map you want to use underneath your left handlebar. I'm not worried about how you wired it to your Bazzas unit, I'm more concerned which switch is that, is it water proof, and how did you go about mounting it there? I'm looking to get a switch and mount it in a convenient location like so to turn my headlight completely off so I can ride during the day with my halo.

+Viper3870750 Hey man, I must have missed your comment, sorry for the late response. That map switch is actually a part made by Bazzaz Performance. It's the Bazzaz Map Select Switch. It's waterproof and the shop that tuned my bike fabricated that handlebar mount and wired everything. I think the switch was around $70 I think. Check it out on Bazzaz's website or Revzilla. Hope this helps. Appreciate you checking out the channel.

+KutWrite Hey, thanks for watching the video. Glad to hear you found some of it helpful. I do run stock suspension on this bike, despite the bad rap it gets. I posted a video, maybe a year ago, titled "FZ09 Stock Suspension." It will be in the motorcycle topics playlist on this channel. In it, I give my thoughts on the suspension on this particular bike. If you get a chance, check it out. I think for street riding, the stock components, once stiffened up a bit are fine, however if I were to spend serious time at the track on the FZ this spring and summer, I would install aftermarket fork internals and rear shock for track days. Appreciate you watching the channel.

So hows the transmission on these bikes? Being the one thing I couldn't upgrade I'm constantly wary of report of it being 'clunky' which I can abide by....but is it? Smooth and positive is what I look for. Currently I'm on a street triple and the transmission is good but I'm not getting on with the ergonomics/minimal room and less than fabulous torque/high reving engine.

+Jeff Cunningham Hey man, your comment must have slipped by me, sorry for the delayed response. Both the Akra Carbon and Yosh R77 offer up more or less the same level of performance. The Akra CF is a touch lighter in terms of weight and is a great exhaust option for the FZ-09. @fastfz0976
@fastfz0976 8 жыл бұрын
+Dulf Nordensvärd Hey, thanks for watching. The gas tank cap is simply a keyless tank cap. The stock unit requires the key in order to lift the cap for fueling. The Vortex gas cap installed on the bike allows the rider to fuel the motorcycle while leaving the key in the ignition. Plus its a lot lighter than stock and looks better as well. It's both a functional and cosmetic upgrade over the stock gas cap. As for theft prevention, it serves no purpose. There is a switch that locks the gas cap but requires no key. It then spins on and off on a threaded lid to open and close. Hope this answers your question. Appreciate you checking out the channel.

How do you feel about windscreen is it looks or necessary
@fastfz0976
@fastfz0976 9 жыл бұрын
+Sam Goings I think that all depends on the rider. A screen can be functional and enhance the looks of a motorcycle for sure. If you ride the FZ as more of a commuter or distance riding on the highway, then a windscreen would make the bike more comfortable for that type of riding. The screen would help with helmet buffering at higher speeds as well. There are numerous screens available for this bike, ranging from multiple heights and shapes. Some look really good and some look terrible, but a rider would have a lot of choices if they wanted to add a screen. I often run a GoPro just above the front headlight and if I installed a screen I would no longer be able to do that. A screen would keep the back of the gauge cluster cleaner from bugs.

+fast fz09 I used to ride FZ 16 , which is 160 cc back in my country and same body position .so I bought this 09 instead of 07 , though I knew it has some serious problem of suspensions, but riding it with stock settings for 3 weeks I felt miserable and then After I see your previous Video on suspension , I changed Mine and man I felt lot more confident. it takes curves lot more smother. One thing I notice is why did not you installed fairing or wind screen when you spent so much on other mods. doesnt wind hurt you above 70 with stock handlebar ?

+tapia3540 Hey, thanks for the comment. The stock suspension on this bike, once broken in and stiffened up a bit actually handles quite well, even on fast paced mountain riding. Suspension is a very personal thing in how it feels to different riders so I just hate to see some riders or potential buyers of a particular bike blindly believing what they see and read on the internet. Glad to hear that adjustment worked out for you. As for no windscreen, it doesn't bother me at all concerning any windblast. I don't even notice it. However if I did long stints of straight up riding on the highway I can see where a proper windscreen would be a nice addition for this bike. So u ride it in A mode even on the switch backs, hard fast turns etc.? Man thats crazy. Is your bike tuned that good to where the crazy choppy throttle is smooth? Man I hate that mega initial choppy.throtte in A mode. Especialy when I wheelie, that choppy throttle makes it hard to do a smooth wheelie sometimes I always gotta be ready on the rear brake because the power comes on too hard initially. If there is a way to 100% take that super choppy throtte away, please tell me the secret . : )

Hey thanks for the comment and for watching the video. I do solely run this bike in A mode. The tune the bike is running is mapped to to be in A mode only and that's how I ride it. The custom tune does help smooth out the abrupt "on-off" initial crack of the throttle. I also have a lot of seat time on the bike so I may not notice it quite as much as some riders. The ECU was also flashed to the factory ECU throttle setting. I have purchased a G2 Throttle Tamer throttle tube and plan on getting that part installed shortly which will also help to improve the smoothness of the throttle. Appreciate you checking out the channel and ride safe.

@fastfz0976
@fastfz0976 8 жыл бұрын
+Future11B Hey thanks for the positive comment, glad you liked the video. Crash Bars are not suitable for the kind of riding we do. My FZ is only ridden in the mountains of western North Carolina, Virginia, & eastern Tennessee. Crash bars are not suited for riding fast curvy mountain roads. They are more for stunt riders that stunt in parking lots and vacant streets. Plus they look terrible on a bike in my opinion. You see a lot of squid riders with crash bars. I have case covers and frame/axle sliders installed for protection. Again, that's just my view, so take that with a grain of salt. Appreciate you checking out the video and channel.

I actually used to own an ex-AMA Suzuki GSXR 1000 race bike. A buddy and I jointly owned it and bought it from an AMA race team out in CA and had it shipped here to NC. That bike put down over 190HP to the rear tire. This is pre-traction control era, so it was a handful and took a bit of skill to keep from high siding yourself to the moon! So I have ridden high horsepower bikes on the track. I owned an R6 as well and took that bike to the track also. I just really enjoy riding the FZ at the racetrack. But the funny thing is that all the super fast guys drop down and race Ninja 300s and smaller displacement motorcycles. A faster bike is much easier to go fast on, hence more novice riders ride 1000s. Especially with all the advancements in rider aids, more people can ride the bike without spinning up the rear. 1000s are fun, but in the right hands, the FZ09 can get things done at the track. Great question and thanks for watching.

Very interesting. I think quite a few experienced riders don't yet know the potential of the fz09. A few have said it isn't as fast as a 600cc. But from your videos, I see that the fz09 is very fast. And my next bike will be something more comfortable like a fz09, fz10, or z1000.

+RedBeard109 Hey what up man, thanks for checking out the video. I agree with you about that. It's a shame some people believe anything they read or hear online. In its release year of 2014 the bike won multiple shootouts and created a ton of excitement in the naked bike segment of the US market. The FZ-09 is also the best selling Yamaha motorcycle of all the bikes they produce, both street and off road. That alone says something. And up to 100mph it'll smoke even most liter bikes, I know for a fact mine will. But its so much bike for the money and a hoot to ride. Yes, for sure, you need to come ride with us sometime, you're not too far away. Thanks for supporting the channel and ride safe!

Dude thank you ! Coming off a 6 year ownership of a 07 R1 , and getting a leftover '16 FZ -09 this week and I was starting to have second thoughts because of the negative reviews ...you have made me feel at ease again perfect description of what I want in a bike.

Hey man, thanks for comment. I love R1s. The bike has such an attitude. I love em. The FZ09 in my opinion, is hands down the most fun motorcycle I've owned. It's comfortable, lightweight, and fast. Mine is a bit lighter and faster than a stock FZ, but even in bone stock trim, the FZ is a badass motorcycle. A lot of internet chatter about bikes and parts and other motorcycle talk is a bunch of bullshit I think. Most people just recite what they have heard or read without actually even riding the motorcycle they are talking about. No bike is perfect but the FZ is pretty damn good. Appreciate you checking out the channel, congrats on the new bike and ride safe.

+Alan Luangrath Hey appreciate it man! I tend to ramble on a bit, hence a 30 minute video, but I tried to go into detail about why I set my bike up this way. And a little bit of bling never hurt anybody. haha Thanks for watching.

+SammyOnAYammi Hey, thanks for watching the video and glad to hear that you got something from it. I owned an R6 years ago and loved it, especially at track days, but I love the FZ09 even more. It's more versatile and overall just more fun than a high strung bike like an R6. And like I said in the video, once properly set up, they are so easy to ride fast or simply as a commuter or around town scoot. If you get one, let me know how you like it. Appreciate you checking out the channel.
