And just about five minutes earlier that car was going nearly 300 mph. That motor is still warm.

After 4 minutes I would finally find my half inch wrench and show up to say what ever is left does it require a half inch wrench?

Anytime I take someone to the drags for the first time I always make a point to take them to the pits when they bring the cars back. And it always impresses them how within five minutes of pulling in, the blower,cylinder heads,clutch are all out and being worked on.

Sure is easy when there is no frame, steering pump, water pump, coolant, radiator, hood and all the small bits that get in the way.

In this 5 mins,I manage to remember how to pop and lift my hood to top up the screen wash.

Now THAT is teamwork... watching everything in real time is great... at 0:36 the guy on this side removes 8 plugwires in 2 seconds... 2:45 and 2:50, rocker shaft assemblies, then one guy does the valley stud nuts while 2 guys on the sides hit the main head stud nuts... then, at 3:20, OFF WITH THEIR HEADS!

I have a question. Would it not be easier just to pull that engine and put a fresh one in that’s all ready to go. Then the team could spend time to rebuild that one. That’s a great video of some very skilled mechanics that really know there jobs. Thanks.

That one guy had a helluva time with that turn signal.

Sigh, back in the good old days when my wife's company sponsored one of the cars, we would get a front row seat to this kind of thing every summer. Amazing to have that many people working furiously in that cramped space, and nobody gets in each others way. You don't hear a lot of talking; everyone knows their part and does it smoothly. It's like a dance. Oh, and all the tools get put away promptly, LOL.

I went to the 4 wide nationals when I was in college in Charlotte NC. I'm a circle track late model asphalt driver amd I have never heard something so loud and fast in my life the top fuel dragster 4 at a time will hurt your chest if your on the starting grid and I got to watch forces car get tore down and rebuilt in 10 minutes and I was allowed to be right next to them due to my vip passes I got from a nhra friend of mine and those motors are all ment to be done that quick you got 2 bolts and 4 big straps holding down blower and intake only. And they have about 10 trays ready to go with brand new everything to rebuild motor on each tray

Well I got 3:54 seconds before vid ended. That's damn fast. But, sadly, I don't have that kind of help-even to just replace my water pump. Are you guys available to help me next weekend?

OK rookie question here - why don’t they just replace the engine instead of rebuilding the same one? Is it a NHRA rule?

why do they do this?
@Renville806 жыл бұрын
James Watters an old comment, but think of how much strain that engine is under during that pass. That and the fact there is no coolant system on these engines.
@EmersonCapuano12 жыл бұрын
Ops, tearing up is wrong. I should say : rebuilding :P Sorry
@mattk9705 жыл бұрын
So they go down the strip in just a few seconds. So is it really neccessary they have to rebuild them after EVERY run? The seems crazy.

Engine litterally tears itself apart in those few seconds.
