What a helpful video! I LOVE hearing details, the repetitions help, and it's great to be coached to do it "wrong" to feel/hear the contrast with the right technique. So often, it's easy to think I have it right until I do it "wrong" and realize that that way is awfully familiar. I have a general question here just on Italian speaking patterns in general -- it sounds to me like this language is much more forward, in general, than, say, English. Is that true? If I try to break down how, it seems like there's, like you say, no breathiness on most consonants, and perhaps the lips are more often forward. It's more than that though -- it's a distinctively forward sound - more nasal perhaps? I feel like, if I can grasp the style/directionality of Italian speech as well as the diction, it will help all my other Italian pieces have more of the right spirit - because I suspect it's possible to have the right vowel and consonant and somehow still be a bit "weak" in delivery compared to the feistiness and zest that Italian speaking seems to contain. Thanks again for such a helpful detailed video!

Thank you for writing! I would like to talk about The subject again. If you like write to me at info@elenavilla.it I think I agree a out italian sounding more forward. As singers we have to pronounce our own language differently. About being nasal i would call it nasalized…if you like write to me at info@elenavilla.it Good singing!!!!
