Swedes fly a constant AOA to touchdown (aka they imitate the USN pilots style). The HuAF, fly the standard "flare at touchdown" and then use aerodynamic braking to slow down (aka the USAF way). Is that simple.

Cheap, low maintenance cost, reliable (including in designed rugged arctic regions), small cross section, great speed and turn rate with capabilities for any NATO armament and others, and decent EW capabilities. Seems like an ideal fighter for Canada, except idk how any 4.5 gen fighter could take on stealth in BVR...seems like it'll be obsolete in 10 years Edit: I read up on stealth and it's limitations, and it seems it's stealth that might become obsolete, in which case dumping money on EW capabilities instead of stealth is the way to go. So we'll see!

The fighter is a good product, cheap and reliable, Saab does not make bad products, but it is also a single engine with a lower power-to-weight ratio, lower load capacity But when all the leading companies are in full development of a 6th generation, buying a 4+ is not a good choice Maybe it is for a developing country like Brazil, but not for a first-line country like Canada.

@@andrewray9200 radar may and probably will advance to the point that the material used on stealth aircraft won't be able to absorb/deflect as effectively, and unfortunately it's not as simple a fix as swapping hardware, you would need an entirely new aircraft. EW hardware is easier to swap out as tech advances

Seems quite risky when a cannon round or missile fired by the enemy you are intercepting could set it off. I dont think the JAS 39 is even has the equipment onboard to carry and arm the Nukes like an F/A-18E
