I have to ask; I don't understand what is happening with the ruler at the start of the video. What is that trying to accomplish in the terms of checking cranial nerves?

If done slowly, it checks eyesight as in what number on the ruler is the pen pointing to or which number you see first… because some are close and others further it worlds like an eyesight chart Then if done in rounds of 2/3 it checks depth perception as in which position in that round was closest or furthest.
