I love this. I will be doing this in Kenya shortly.

on a read just from the description, it's automatic instant contracts, lots like the contracts isp's negotiate for years.

Do you have any idea how pretentious and stupid you sound? You couldn't watch the video through, but you could take the time to tell us about it? Moron.

Althea, if some one wanted to start this in their small town like Clatskanie whats the process?
@felderup4 жыл бұрын
i've been looking into this kind of thing for a while, just heard of althea though. you gotta get a bunch of people to set up nodes and many of them would need connection to an isp, the bandwidth of which they'd sell on to other nodes without direct connection. for a small town, i'd say... get permission to put wiffy routers on phone poles, lots of people paid to have them installed, phone company don't own them(probably), also houses, people that want to connect required to install a node to serve downstream users? if they won't agree their neighbours will probably go for it.

my favorite ecosystem utopia is also on p2p, because of this, it is completely anonymous

P2P is not and never was anonymous

One doubt. Why it's not decentralized if so many organizations are trying to make it decentralized??
@felderup4 жыл бұрын
how many decentralised protocols are there now? a few hundred? maybe a local group can choose their own protocol, eventually all the data goes over the regular internet... where it'll get converted to run on another type of decentralised net. to be popular, it's gotta be like the raspberry pi, cheap and easy.

I think starlink is going to make this seem much less compelling. I know it doesn't fix the problem, but its going to be sooo easy.

now we know how much starlink costs... i know i can't afford it.

saw it was something around 170U$, might be less, but i can get wireless locally for under 40cdn.

@@felderup 170/month! This man ain't selling no Internet service at that price lol
@felderup4 жыл бұрын
i think it was one of my regular watchees, maybe gardiner bryant that mentioned it. here, net(1.5mbit/s async dsl) with phone is getting close to 170cdn, with exchange 170U$ would be enough to make someone laugh their nipples off. the lure of something like adhoc wireless or something like althea is that it'd be possible to squid it all and aggregate for everyone. i wonder if it'd be an option.

Okay, dude, how this works in real life? If everyone have althea, who gives internet from other country? Are you going to provide it from underground cables as well?
@felderup4 жыл бұрын
since the users would be purchasing bandwidth from each other... well, if there were no isp to buy the first chunks of bandwidth from, if it were all free, someone wouldn't need to charge, the hardware would be maybe 100 bucks for a solar charged router, over time it'd amortise to near nothing per gig. so, it'd use the same internet for bandwidth that i2p and gnunet uses, that's how you get to other countries.

We should be paying for internet bandwidth instead of paying per gigabyte of data. Please makr a way to make internet bandwidth scalable according to thr bandwidth each user paid for. In this way we can make sure those that arr spending more can get more bandwidth to make it just and fair. Lets say I buy 5MBPS of bandwidth worth 10 GB, so I can spend it for as long as I still have GB allocation is not zero. For the user side, I should be able to adjust my bandwidth usage according tp the bandwidth I paid. It means I can set my bandwidth from 5mbps downward. In this way more user can use spare bandwidth i am not using. And also I can throtle mybgigabyte spending accprding to my needs.
