You would think they learned that lesson with the Mig25. It was fast but only in a straight line and at it's max speed the engine started eating itself. Indeed, this is exactly the scenario for MiG-25/31/41. Its goal is to quickly jump into high altitude and intercept its targets that can, indeed, go from roughly one direction. Hence it does not need more than frontal and a bit of sideways stealth and it does not need super manoeuvrability. A totally different plane from anything else currently in use worldwide.
@pjduker052 жыл бұрын
I would agree with you if this were a cold war scenario. But unfortunately it wouldn't work to well in a modern setting. The biggest reason being that their enemies won't come from a single direction. Frankly we never have. Look at D-day. That was a many pronged front with fake outs on distant beaches. Now that said, a nation like the USA would certainly have many assets in the air searching for Russian interceptors and SAMs. This means our new friend the Mig-41 isn't getting pinged from just the front. Furthermore he would be up against stealth fighters and bombers as well. So unless he activates his active radar he will have just as hard of a time hunting us. And of course as soon as he does that every air and naval asset will have his location and it'll be less than minutes before he's parachuting over the eastern coast of Russia.

It's also a curiousity of mine, of how fast the SR-71 could really go, in such overload, burst speed settings. There are pilot reports of Mach 3.5 in the SR-71, and that's the highest publically available speed data. Engineering analsys on the shock cones of the engines, i vaguely remember showed full retraction and losing thrust past a certain speed... Even so, the true top end is a vague question mark, still. Russia was much more boastful with the Mig-31. It'll be exciting to see how far they can push the new aircraft, honestly, anything past the high mach 2's all require similar feats of engine tech wizardry, in terms of novel engineering solutions, as the SR-71 has. It is more a question, as i understand it, of what speed range they tune it for. The SR-71 is a slide-rule designed plane, from... what now, 50+ years ago? Surely, computers can help us do better than just the 3.2 mach in bursts of the similarly, not hyper advanced computer design aided engine engineering techniques that exist in the MiG-31.

Knowing just enough about the A-12 and SR-71 and what they had to overcome to make it happen, I am somewhat skeptical. Yeah sure a "secret plane" going Mach 10, yet the US is years behind in hypersonic rocket technology. Both China and Russia have functioning hypersonic missiles like the Kinzhal that Russia actually used in Ukraine. US just had a 3rd test of their hypersonic missile after the previous 2 failed, and they succeeded this time. But that means that the testing phase isn't even over yet. US has better stealth technology but when it comes to pure speed and maneuverability, Russia has them beat there. Neither f22 or f35 have fully fledged thrust vectoring engines but Su57 does (su57 engines can move in a full 360 degree range of motion while the ones on f22 and f35 can only move up and down) Let's not even mention the fact that US military budget is bigger than the other top 5 countries combined, yet they can't even develop a decent rocket engine and have been using the Russian Soyuz rocket for decades to take their astronauts to the ISS.

@@xlxl9440 How about no? It's because USSR had many brilliant rocket engineers and scientists and Russia inherited mostly everything from the USSR. US had it's own space program, but the space shuttle was retired and is no longer in operation. Also no it's not rapidly catching up nor surpassing Russian rocket technology, it's years behind in that aspect. While Russians lack some of the more sophisticated computers, micro chips etc, they are far better at designing aerodynamic jets and rockets. Russians also focus on lowering upkeep costs of their military assets. Russian jets are extremely sturdy and can be maintained at remote air bases, while American fifth gen fighters like f35 and f22 require hours of maintenance for a single hour of flight. F35 needs to be sent to the manufacturer for repairs, it's not cost effective at all and during a time of total war you don't want an aircraft that spends more time in maintenance than in service. Can you ever admit that US is behind in some aspects which is only natural or are u gonna keep coming up with excuses?

It is my understanding that the limiting factor of speed with the SR71 had more to do with keeping the plane held back in a zone where it wouldn't destroy itself from the stresses of flying at a velocity the airframe could reasonably manage to handle for a sustained amount of time... not too much because of the engines lacking the ability to push it faster. This same airframe limitation is also why they didn't try to build a carrier version SR71, they couldn't make it robust enough to land without worries... I would suspect, if the Soviets could develop a similar or better power plant as the SR71, then the top sustainable speed world probably also be limited by the abilities of the airframe... tricky problems pushing airplanes that fast, not as easy to do as a missle, and there are other factors the SR71 took advantage of that don't seem to be in the mix of the rendition of aircraft shown in this video... but who knows... and of course, good luck to building such an amazing plane! LOL

why would you even think of trying to land an SR-71 on a carrier flight deck... a plane that needs a parachute just to land in something like 2 miles of runway. Get out of here with thinking of landing it on a carrier.. there were never any ideas of putting something like that on the flight deck. Hell it's so heavy it can barely get off the ground and needs all of the runway at takeoff speed.

I have seen footage of them launching off a carrier. This presumably was just to see if it could be done, similar to seeing how the Hercules was also considered and tested for carrier landing. I also remember hearing someone discussing them looking into the possibility of what it would take to beef up the airframe enough to land an SR71 varient on a carrier, but this idea was scrapped as unfeasible... and the SR71 was serving quite adequately in it's normal capacity... this wasn't my idea, these were things that were actually done or considered for proposals.... the military loves to consider possibilities that sound good but aren't sound....

Cool project for an artist. It will never be even a prototype. They don’t have any of the technology required for these claims. They don’t even mention these technologies, like ramjet. They just sketched a regular planes and put imaginary numbers next to it. The Russians are doing it all the time. They always dream about super weapons they never build.

With the way the Russian arms industry is lagging behind the West, with constant delays, and problems with parts, its unlikely the MIG41 will be in service for a very long time. Let's see Russia field a fleet of SU57 before we even begin to talk about more advanced jets.

@dr.j56422 жыл бұрын
@@wfwfewfds right now? Probably not. So? We will have them in less than 2 years. Unless Russia is going to start a war with the US in less than that time, the advantage Russia has means little to nothing. Will you have a fleet of Su57 in 2 years? No. But in 2 years the US will have hypersonics AND close to 1,000 F35, plus our F22s, and our 6th generation fighter will be just 5 years away from that point. When we have 6th generation fighters, 1200 F35, 110+ upgraded super F22s, AND multiple hypersonic platforms, what will Russia have? Maybe 100 Su57? No one is underestimating Russia, if anything, the war in Ukraine is showing the whole world we have been overestimating Russia for a very long time. Right now, Russia is the top threat, but in a very short amount of time, Russia will become absolutely nothing in comparison to China, especially with all of the consequences of this current war.

Do you really think the West has advanced technology? Your f35s are child's play compared to Russia's su-35. Russian aircraft engineering has years of experience, while the west builds f.jets from scratch, as a result those fighter jets have countless technical flaws, and are very expensive to maintain. Western fighter jets are made for posturing, while Russian ones are made for real combat.

Russian propagandist: "Soon we make best new interceptor with top speed of...(uh, Sergei, how fast SR-71?)..." Sergei: "Mach 3.2" Russian propagandist: "...MACH 4.5!!!" The reported top speed of both the turbofan-powered MIG 25 and 31 required engine replacements as they self-destructed when pressed. To go another Mach number above that requires an exponential increase in power. It's just conjecture at this point unless they go aerospike or scramjet. We'll see...
@ncrawford14882 жыл бұрын
This video REALLY discredits this whole channel. People don't understand the exponential increase needed for SMALL gains. As I replied to another user- this is like saying you've replaced the engine and body on a C2 Corvette and it now does 350mph for hundreds of miles. It's not happening. PERIOD. There is no way on God's green earth that this thing is going Mach 4.3 just...no. That's not even a good bluff. It's not that the Russians aren't smart enough to produce a jet that fast, it's that the laws of jet engine mechanics don't work the same way at hyper sonic speeds. There's a very good reason the SR71 has those massive cones on their engines. Modern designs for moving this fast use SCRAM jet concepts, not an outdated 3rd gen interceptor.

I call BS on the speed. The SR-71 was really pushing it and it was specifically designed for max speed and they used a "kinda" ramjet engine for it. Just by looking at current hypersonic platforms you can figure out, that it is extremely hard to pull off something faster than the SR-71 as the heat and engine design become mind boggling tasks. If you engage in jet design rather than building rockets, everything faster than Mach 3 becomes an absolute nightmare...
@alexeyvlasenko66222 жыл бұрын
Definitely, a speed of Mach 4.1 would imply that this thing uses ramjets, which it doesn't look like it does, and which have severe downsides (insane fuel consumption, very poor performance at low speeds). Also, such high speeds would require a specially designed airframe, which again this doesn't look like it has. A real Mach 4.1 aircraft would probably look more like a hypersonic missile than a plane. It would likely have to use a rocket booster to get up to ramjet speed, then use the ramjet to go above Mach 4, at which speed it would have very limited range, probably only a few hundred km one way.
@angelosasso16532 жыл бұрын
@@alexeyvlasenko6622 Completely agree, you will need something like a dual stage approach to even get to ramjet speeds. Not to mention the ramjet prototypes that had been put out so far, proved a need for extensive cooling on almost every part and the prototypes as you mentioned already look like rockets, so there is little room for improvement aerdynamically speaking. The SR-71 was getting hot enough on the outside to have a BBQ party on the frame. There are good reasons nobody builds fighter jets with speeds greater than Mach 2.x. Sadly there is a lot of sensationalist videos here on YT, where the CGI rendering clearly dictates the story...

Mach 4.3 won't happen. Mach 3.5 probably won't either. Not because they can't, but because there's no use case. The SR-71 needed speed to outrun air defences of the day and be in and out before presenting enough time to detect, track, and fire upon. It needed that speed. Fast interceptors are nice, but buying 10 slower and more widely dispersed aircraft is always going to beat buying 1 stupidly fast and stupidly expensive engineering marvel. For fast threats no manned machine is going to be better than a fast modern missile.

Kelly Johnson said fuel was the limiting factor on the YF12, Y12, and SR71. But at full afterburner in dense cold air, mach 4 was possible for a short time until fuel was exhausted on the lighter YF12 which was heavier than the mig 25 and 31.Pilots hit 3500mph in the SR71 and faster in lighter Y12 which equals mach4
