Some of the questions are repeated. It started 30yrs ago. They answer them easily because they have heard it or seen similar questions before.

@@WofaKwame that could be possible, but a NSMQ that’s projects smart and intelligent students in such fashion shouldn’t rely on past questions with exact values. The deal breaker sets in at the point where a preamble is yet to be described and an answer is thrown up in the air. If that’s not a rehearsed competition then what do we call it? “Smartness” or soothsaying?

Not really. It follows a trend and we have short cuts to solving some of these questions. For Bright's answer he just turned the figure over and had the answer . That's Calculus

@@paulawinpanggodsway2720 I used to be one out of three boys representing my school for NMSQ, we were recruited when in form one, we spent hours in the science lab watching all the past contest and writing the questions down. Afterwards we practice short cut to answering the questions. We will be made to learn and memorize all the triq values from SIN0 to COS 90, log 1 to Log9, etc, and generate the very short cut to maths questions. Take it like this, 8-1+7-4* 9, you know that at the end you need the sum of it all, so you work it along as the question is being read. As for riddles, you need only one major clue and then gamble on the answer. like the guy said " force" every science student know that Newton and force are inseparable. so is not like they had the questions prior.

I used to be part of the national science and maths quiz for sutesco and I can say that they repeat past questions. We learn past questions over and over and that's how we normally answer questions even before the quiz mistress finish reading it.
