Reliability, backup, how natural it feels to ride etc... All far more important than the raw power... I'm sure to some people a 1KW eBike sounds impressive, but I've got a 120KW KTM 1290 in my garage too if I really feel the need to burn some rubber, so the eMTB horsepower wars don't interest me in the slightest!

I just checked my stats of my Bosch Gen4 in my Orbea Wild and I have used: 2% turbo 25% EMTB 70% tour+ 3% eco. Eco sucks and I only use that in limb mode to get home.. So for me there is no need to have heaps of power ( I was for a long time very much in doubt to get a full power or an SL E-bike). What I do want, is range, control and not too heavy reliable stuff with great handling. The DJI looks really compelling, ticking almost all the boxxes but what I do miss in it is what would be a tour/trail/give it a name mid setting on an Shimano/bosch bike. With a setting like that it should have even more range and probably blow all the current SL/midrange power bikes out of the water.

Not a single problem with it, silent 50 Nm motor, really powerful uphill, unlocked so it goes 50 km/h on flat, still great battery, only reason for upgrade would be desire to get something new and weight, my bike is 21.9kg. If I can get same reliability and similar or better power with less weight, than not sure what to ask more from eBike.

I think where the motor power is on the motors is the sweet spot @ 85 - 90 Nm. Personally, i want to keep my eMTB investment for years. The focus should really be on making motors more serviceable, developing better seals, stronger motor and quieter components. If these company engineers can create newer better motors every year, I don’t see why they can’t invest on improving older Bosch, Shimano, Brose motors (component’s / hardware / battery etc. instead of bottlenecking consumers on another $$$ upgrade.

I have the 2021 EP8 with a 900wh battery, and find it plenty powerful. Most of my climb are not technical and I simply cruise uphill at around 200m vertical for every 10 min of climbing. I tried a couple of time to dry out my battery, and I took me about 3h of riding on turbo, and I was has much spent then the bike... That leed me to the conclusion that I would not need a more powerful motor, neither a bigger battery. ALSO, I would like my bike to be lighter, so I would not increase the motor power and battery , cuz it would be to much IMO. I wish to see more efficient motor, reducing the battery size needed, and higher density battery. The power to weight ratio of the DJI system seems spot on, but I dont think the 120NM are needed, simply a nice bonus when you need it, but I would probably reduce power output on the non-boost mode, in order to get more range, but still maintain the boost mode when needed. BUT, and this is a big one, I think the future is more in the Pinion MGU model, simplifying the maintenance and reducing the risk of a broken chain or derailler, shifting adjustment, and provinding the ability to shift at a stand still

I would say there is absolutely no need for whole the power that current CX gen 4 offers. Yes, it can add fun to going uphill But it quickly fades away when you have to Exchange your chain, sprockets etc. Higher torque also causes more wear on the internals of the motor. Boost mode on gen 4 Bosch seems redundant to me as you will lift front wheel way to easily.

The power and overall system from DJI is impressive. The only outstanding question is going to be the longevity and support of the motor/system. I ride a wonderful Levo current gen and love the bike. Would I like to have the DJI motor on my bike? Yes and the reason is it would make an already great bike even more capable. Can't wait for the DJI motor to make it to other OEM brands. Hopefully Specialized. AMFLOW bike looks good but I would not buy it now until it has a track record of at least 3 years or more on the market. Any 1st buyers are going to be the Beta testers and that can be a nightmare. A message to DJI...thx for disrupting the ebike motor market. The establishment now has to meet or exceed your innovation. Bosch's Gen 5 is meh and shows how they think. TBosch have biggest slice of ebike motor market so why should they innovate when they can iterate. And how do this is make their next gen motor incompatible with previous gen motor mounts. Thus OEM's can have a reason to make a new bike and sell it to their customers instead of having and option to upgrade. Again thank you DJI for setting the fox out amongst the chickens.

Let’s start rating the power as a percent or multiple of a pro rider. IE 1.25 tour rider or 0.75 of Merckx 😂. I think that is a better indicator. A 0.75 adding your 0.25 equals 100% of a tour professional. If you can add 0.50, you can go a lot faster. It’s human nature to want more and more, however I believe this is where the sport begins to cause itself problems. Riding trails at an expected bicycle pace doesnt cause anyone heartburn, Burning up the trail at 2x pace gets negative attention. The rise of 29r speed on the downhills have already caused conflicts and increased trail maintenance due to speeds. One old timers observations.
@tonygregg6957Ай бұрын
Wow, great comparison, I think I'm more interested in overall efficiency and reliability. Maybe 25-30 miles reliably at a normal analogue pace would suit me. Given just how powerful the DJI is I don't understand how it meets UK/EU law , I thought a pedelec should be able to give no more than 250W continuously. If companies continue to push the boundaries like this is there a risk of a crackdown / backlash from the authorities? We are already seeing issues with Surron type abuse and that unfortunately reflects badly on ebikers. I can see the 250 - 500 of current bikes being similar to what a person can produced, a 1000w with 120Nm of torque is something completely different.

EXACTLY! Give me tuneability of the different power levels, but I don’t need more power. I have 100nm on a 702Wh battery at 36v… it’s more than I need, but it’s a hardtail to get me started while I build my skills. Also a 3-4 year warranty would be sweet. 😅

You should compare with Bosch Race!

Make it sound like the DJI doesn't deliver on all those points🤣😂😂😂

How is 40 seconds even a race, what crap. You cant un restrict the DJI ?

The most important thing to me is the service and backup from the bike shop and the manufacturer, I totally think Bosch is the winner 🏆 hand ✋️ down 😊 laters

You don't need a 10K Mflow for this. A cheapo Bafang M600 and an E10 Dengfu frame will give you the same result on this track and absolutely destroy any major brands. But despite getting utterly crushed on speed and power, the advantage of the Bosch system is it's natural pedaling response on tech. This is the weakness of the Chinese motors, nm numbers and speed means nothing on the trail if the juice comes on too fast and your rear tire is spinning on a climb. This test failed to address that weakness.

All good points but you need to try the DJI it’s pretty impressive

I have an 1800w Bafang M560 & a Mondraker/Bosch Gen4 & the Bafang bike pedals as naturally as the Gen4 & will climb any hill better. Enduro motorcycles have 40,000 watt motors & they climb even better. What makes me laugh is everyone saying that 250w/500w is all you need but when they actually ride a more powerful motor they realize more power = more fun. Has ANYONE who has ridden a DJI said it's too fast...they're smiling too much.

I have a M600 bafang and it's almost as smooth as my Gen 4 rail,bafang usually on lower spec heavier bikes,still a little faster than rail.

Hence the short 40 second climb test¿
@dansadventures5514Ай бұрын
This test doesn't represent real climbing because you were in boost mode for most of it and boost only lasts 30 seconds whereas my climbs take between 30 minutes to a couple hours when climbing larger mountains. It's unreasonable for us to press and hold to engage boost mode every 30 seconds as it detracts from the biking experience and is especially unreasonable when tackling technical climbs which is when we need the assistance the most. If you want to present a fair and realistic comparison, it should be done without boost mode as that's how the vast majority of users will be climbing most of the time.

Every time i see a video with the amflow dji there are some questions that i have and lots of should have too, but for what i see for now it's just a bike for youtube show off cause, i can't order it. then in questions of warranty, service, and stuff like that, nobody talks about, i know, its a brand new motor and system, then leave to other questions.

Check my review of the Amflow

I think warranty, aftercare and dealer support is super important. We don’t know what the reliability of the DJI motor is yet.

thats a significant difference. i bet both bosch and shimano will soon catch up.
