Fastest elevator in the World (546 meters - 73,8 km/h Maximum Speed)

At the Shanghai Tower you'll find one of the ultra high speed elevators to reach the level 118 and enjoy the view of the city from the second highest skyscraper in the world.
The world's fastest elevators are traveling at 18-20.5 m/s (1230 m/min, 73.8 km/h).
It was installed on 7 July 2016 and it got a Guinness World Records Certificate as the fastest lift (elevator).

Its for comfort. You would begin to feel weightless if it went down too fast.

Not only for comfort, but safety as well. If you're trying to go for the fastest speed down on an elevator... just try jumping off the building. The more you weight, the faster you'll get down. Of course, you probably won't be alive afterwords, but hey, you wanted the fastest way down. But that's the reason why Elevator don't have "faster" down speed, unless you want to die that is.

Z'ev: The same is true in other super tall buildings. There have been injuries to people resulting from higher speeds when they decelerated going downward from speeds similar to upward travel. The injuries had even resulted in long term damage to a few people. Notice that very high roller coaster {& the like} rides have greater radii curves and even some tilts to reduce compression on the spine and inner organs at the bottom of higher and highest hills. Willis Tower had faced that issue decades ago.

@@goshtic9565 did you even learn basic physics? You won’t be free falling unless the acceleration of the elevator is greater than the acceleration of free fall. Go back to school and get your facts straight before commenting.
