Love your videos. They are so straight forward unlike other channels who sometimes think that we are pro and use technical language that goes right through one ear and comes out the other one. But you use such simple terms that are way easier to grasp. All my doubts got cleared out. Keep up the good work Namanh.

As a software engineering manager and former tech lead, I appreciate this video for its focus on practical strategies for learning to code and getting a job in tech. It's important to have a clear plan and focus on the skills that are in demand in the job market, as well as to seek out opportunities for practical experience and networking. The emphasis on the importance of persistence and resilience is also spot on, as the path to a career in tech can be challenging at times. So I’m a software engineering student in my final year. I’ve taken a few interviews now and that first interview went horrible! I had an hour to do two questions and I struggled hard - but I learnt so much from that interview. I went on to my second and automatically found it easier because of the first. Every single interview gets easier and easier and also more positive. My mind set changed after the second interview and I saw each failure as a way of learning (this didn’t come from the first; I felt so rubbish. I felt like I had wasted my time at uni etc). I think a good thing to do I remind yourself where you were 6 months or 12 months prior. This helped me a lot since I remembered not knowing anything about arrays or even variables. To now having built a few different apps across different platforms (none of them near perfect btw). And now I know what an array is, I know how to use them. I know what a variable is. I know how to use them etc etc. - lastly, my advice to any self taught programmers out there is to make sure you learn Object Oriented Programming (OOP); you might not use it at first but in my experience tech companies want an understanding at least when starting out.

If your degree is not teaching you object oriented programming then it is a crap course at a crap college. You should ask for your money back. And you should be undertaking programming projects as part of your course, complete worthwhile applications. If the course you are doing does not give you several major programming projects to do, then it is a crap course again. I did a qualification at school between the ages of 16 and 18 in Computer Science, pre-degree level. (Ok, my pass mark was 99%, so I was pretty good at it.) In fact, I didn't do a degree in computer science, I did another a technical subject. 5 years after graduating university, I was programming in assembly language in my job and using in circuit emulation, and then self trained in Oracle database management server and Microsoft Access. I then got a programming job and went into software development full time and undertook projects of national importance to my country benefiting tens of millions of people. Theory means nothing. Yes you should code up some standard algorithms to get practise, but you need some meaty sized practical projects. You build confidence by doing those projects and being able to talk about the problems you encountered and how you solved them, and why you made the architectural and implementation decisions you did. It is no good only studying theory and trying to remember it. That is not what makes a good programmer.

@@Blizzarddz I undertook a course of study between the ages of 16 and 18 in Computer Science and it certainly was very useful. It covered computer engineering, architecture, digital logic, data structures, algorithms, relational database management systems, programming languages, compiler design, assemblers and probably a load of other topics I no longer remember. Whatever course you do must cover data structures and algorithms.

Alright, so as someone that has been grinding the self taught path part time for two years now, I can say that I have learned alot of this the hard way. First I got stuck on CSS, and gave it way too much attention when I should have gotten into JS. Futhermore, I should have not even started to learn OOP with JS. It was painful given the nature and syntax of the language. I started OOP over again with a python tutorial and it was literally like swimming downstream afterward. Do NOT worry about the language. Learn the concepts first with Python. Get comfortable to the point where you can explain OOP to a boomer, then worry about getting into a marketable web dev stack. This approach could honestly take a year off your journey if you are starting from a weak logic background.

I enjoy how she keeps me engaged with so many exercises and projects, some of which exemplify real life problems and solutions to help with corrections just in case I get stuck....love from Nigeria 🇳🇬

Angela Yu's course on python is what I've been taking. Currently on day 64 of 100, and I never thought I'd be able to accomplish so much with programming as I have in taking her course. It does need some updates and tweaking, but otherwise a solid course.

Same, one of if not the best python courses available. Its genuinely excellent to the point of shaming the others out there. I skip most the videos, and do the exercises. There is a course with 100 python beginner problems. Great for learning basic syntax ect. Angela yu's course has phenomenal projects including full webapp development.

I am pretty sure once i get myself into the eco-system by getting a course, straight away i will know what to do next, which is the only point where the majority is lagging. So, this much guidance was enough. The rest of course remains on the work we do :)

I'm a beginner in coding, python is the first programming language I learn, I've been stuck on it for a few days, and I decide to quit python and move to javascript, as a beginner is quite hard for me to understand how python work, what python can do, etc. but thanks to your video it was really helpful for me as a beginner, but I'm also being confused after watching this video, should I back to python? or keep on JavaScript? well, I just learn JS in 3 or 4 days, but I can say that JS is easier than python.
@AAA-zu6rw

python was the easier programming language , because you dont need to type a lot of code not like the javascript, actually js and python have similarities especially in function , much better is to start in BASIC , learn first the data structure and algorithms after that the object oriented and python

I'm 31, I already got a college degree but nothing related to computer science. Recently I found that coding is what I've been searching my whole life, being a software developer has become the dream of my life. I've been studying python for a couple months, but still there is something that makes me feel not sure, and it's my age. I don't know if they are looking for younger people. I have a 31 year old black friend in Nigeria that recently started his career as a Software Engineer. No, he didn't study computer science. ND guess what? He works for two US companies remotely from Nigeria. What's more? I have a 50+ year old man that is currently transitioning to Tech (Product Management). Listen Up! 31 is farrrrr from being too old to fit into tech! Are you kidding me? I feel like that's just the right age my brother..... To me, I feel it communicates maturity and tenacity.... It all depends on how you decide to brand yourself: Either as an old person who is struggling to fit in or a skillful 31 year old programmer who is also experienced at managing cross-functional teams. I believe the soft skills you've gathered over years places you at a better advantage than SOME younger people who lack emotional intelligence... So please, BELIEVE IN, and SELL YOURSELF WELL! No one will, if you don't.
