When the Viper was introduced Dodge did the same thing to dealers that Ford is doing to dealers for the GT. Our local Dodge dealership just tacked on the cost of servicing upgrades to the price of the first Viper sold.

Everyone bitching about the service needs of the Ford GT needs to realize that Nissan has almost the same requirements of their dealers that service GTR's.
@RobinsM8 жыл бұрын
No the Ford GT is different they must pick up your car in an enclosed trailer, GTs have to have their own separate bay and then covered when not being worked on. It has to be a certified Ford GT center with a Ford GT specialist. Group 1 is a for servicing and lighting work, Group 2A is complex diagnosis and increased repair difficulty, Group 2B is Complex repairs that need a multimatic "fly in doctor" Group 3 is major repairs where the car will be taken back to 1 of 2 multimatic center or the assembly center. All the dealerships with owners in their area will be notified of their level and required equipment and training.
@DPisawesome128 жыл бұрын
I think the 30k isn't as bad as it sounds. Having the ability to service a Ford GT would probably help with the marketing of that dealer as well. All else being equal, I know I'd rather go to the dealer that could service the Ford GT just the the chances of seeing one. Also as part of their interview process for who they're going to sell these GT's too, weren't they making sure that they will actually be driven? I bet a lot of them will be hammered on. :D

of course any dealer would invest $30,000 into their dealership. it's a no-brainer they get to say we're special we can service the GT. they will probably put it in a room behind glass and possibly pay owners to have their cars in the shop so people can peak in and get a get a look at the GT
@RobinsM8 жыл бұрын
Part of the requirements is that the car must be in its own bay and then covered at all times when not being worked on.
@biturboi68 жыл бұрын
$30,000 is a tiny investment for a big car dealership. I don't think you people realize the cost of doing business. Average cost to build and stock a new car dealer is over 10 million dollars. An extra $30,000 is peanuts to them. Before spending the 30k Ford is going to be able to tell the dealer how many clients own GT's in their area so they will know if this is worth the money. In L.A or New York city it is a no brainer. In Alaska probably not.

#FLDQoftheD "Do youthink Ford dealerships will be receptive to paying $30K to service the Ford GT?" It depends on three things, location location location. That is to say that typically cater to afluent buying wouldn't have an issue droping that much money to service the brands high end sportscar. They expect the car to draw a crowd and potential customers. Maybe not for a GT but that Mustang GT350R in their showroom isn't looking too shabby either. The dealership is The dealerships that market more in pickups and economy won't be inclined to take the plunge. In short, a dealership in Manhattan, New York might be willing to pay, but a dealership in Manhattan, Montana would diffenately pass.

For the typical drive kids to school in a tank usage, 60kWh is plenty. Especially if you have a home charger. It does it overnight, even from empty. Single motor X? Then larger frunk I suppose? Have yet to see a vid on it. The 60 is not lighter (more efficient) than the 75, it's the same pack, just limited in the top end I believe.You get the quick low end charging, though. If Tesla wanted, they'd easily spec 120kWh already. Sightly heavier car. No more lowest suspension setting or slightly raised chassis due to thicker battery pack. Another approach could be a true luxury version. Extended chassis, Rolls Royce style wheels, more limo style interior. Easily space for 150kWh for a VIP owner with a driver who has no bladder.

This confirms it, the new Ford GT really is meaningless. The 05-06 Ford GT's we're not only amazing in their own right, but they were ahead of the game (beating out the likes of Ferrari, Porsche, Lambo, etc); while this is a billboard on wheels for their V6 and a move into the "exclusive" market by making the car a diva (which, if you pay attention, is the trend of the exotic industry of late). I LOVE that it came back after 50 years and destroyed Le Mans, I really do; but it did so as a tool, a car, an icon-returned; yet here we are treating it like a fur rug made of unicorn skin. This is so far removed from a what a Ford should be that I don't care anymore. I don't doubt every owner will effectively be paid to drive theirs for a time before selling it at a profit, but that's the only pull for this car (as fun as those moments may be for the owners). It's people with money who know how to make money work for them; it's not a passion, it's not a pursuit, nor is it a joy to obtain due to the PR nonsense that is the application-process. This is officially a rant, but as someone who thinks the 05-06 Ford GT is the perfect road car (love me or hate me), this is a disgrace. As one last point to those who may think me a chevy fanboy, etc; I drive a second gen SVT Lightning; I love Ford, but this is just stupid. Stop trying to act like Ferrari; we're all REALLY proud that you beat them again 50 years later at Le Mans, we really are, but if I have to second-guess myself in order to change the oil or to change the plugs, then it's not a real Ford. Make no mistake, this is one hell of a car, but the treatment, the pitch, the face it's given, not so much. This isn't a car, its an investment, and no investment should be pursued with emotion.

People with supercars dont want to go to a Ford dealership to have their car serviced. If you think there will be more than 20 or 30 dealerships selling and servicing GT's you are wrong.
@RobinsM8 жыл бұрын
The cars a sold directly from ford the dealership can be anyone of your choice. They asked for your preferred dealer in the application. Then which dealerships can service them is set up in tiers of what kind of work they can do. It has to be a certified ford GT center with a Ford GT specialist. Group 1 is a for servicing and lighting work, Group 2A is complex diagnosis and increased repair difficulty, Group 2B is Complex repairs that need a multimatic "fly in doctor" Group 3 is major repairs where the car will be taken back to the assembly center. All the dealerships with owners in their area will be notified of their level and required equipment and training. That is how the system is set up and the dealer is required to have an enclosed trailer to pick up your car and take it to the right dealer.

I would say that some Ford dealerships, in high-class metropolitan areas, will have no problem paying the $30k. If you live in California, you're golden... Take your pick of LA or the Bay Area. If you're on the east coast, surely Florida will have at least one service bay. If you're a manager in oil in North Dakota, you might be hard pressed to find something nearby. Roger Penske can afford to put it in all of his Ford dealerships. I think if it becomes too big of an issue, Ford will offer some kind of assistance to dealerships. Because in the end, they'd have a lot of unhappy people that couldn't get their freakin' FORD serviced!

#FLDQoftheD - The will sell the GT's for over $100K over list price of $500K so it is no big deal to them at all. The real problem could be that they will have to sell 30-50 of the worst and hardest to sell cars that ford makes for every GT they want. So what will happen is one dealer per city will get the accreditation for the GT and have all the Ford Fiesta's in town too. That is the stupid part. LOL

#FLDQoftheD perhaps Ford doing this is a foreshadowing of more generation GT's to come. Even after this generation production is done.

#FLDQoftheD, I think the 30k update to the dealership pays off long term. Here is why. Anyone that can spend that kind of cash on a car has oodles of money to spend and very possibly has kids. Those kids will eventually need what? CARS! You just potentially bought multiple customers with that one purchase. Plus once the warranty on that VERY expensive Ford GT runs out guess where they are going to take it? BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP! So there's even more money they can earn on parts and repairs. My guess would be only the largest and most capitalized dealerships will end up servicing these cars. It's a gamble that they will make more money on potential additional customers, parts and repairs than the initial investment but it is a gamble a larger dealership may be willing to take. ;-)

That is a nonsensical argument about the service of the GT, it is all about being at the service of the owner instead of something going wrong? I think Ford is right, they need to give the owners of the GT a sense of exclusivity and importance- A concierge service is in keeping with such a rare and expensive car. I like 99% of the content on the show but to knock Ford for having the decency to provide a first class service says a lot about the mindset of the so called petrol heads on the show? Good on Ford for daring to be of service to it's customers....
