Downshifting in a car for rapid acceleration is like a cyclist switching to a lower gear to conquer a steep hill, optimizing power for the uphill challenge. When you subsequently floor the gas pedal, the downshifted gear allows the engine to rev up quickly, providing an efficient and powerful burst of energy for a swift acceleration.

It's not speed it is RPMs you down shift it to increase RPMs but it will bring your cars speed down after you down shift it and you floor it you will increase your RPMS and thats why you got to look at the RPMS to see if you getting close to the RED zone as you approach it you dont want to hit that zone that will fry your transmission so you upshift. The better you get the closer you can get to the redline without hitting it pulling the most power out of every gear as you shift up till you literally run out of gears at 6 for most cars. It is more intuitive when you have a manual because you literally cant drive without knowing this concept. It seems more fun with automatic because less things are at play its just playing with buttons the car does the work.

You can also show her where the redline is at and tell her to upshift just before it gets there. Atleast until she gets used to the sound Upshift when your foot is on the gas and downshift when youre slowing down, but when youre foot is off the gas. Keep an eye on the rpms and dont downshift if its too ckose to 6000
