thanks Jez for sharing your experience, I hope the carrot has finished the West Highland Way!

If the carrot finished, then it did better than me!

You did well. I ran the WHW a couple of years ago in 8 days averaged around 12 miles a day. Loved it even though some days were more like swimming, but no midges yea! I had hoped this year to do it in 4 days but caught 100 day cough instead. So next year hopefully.

I wish you the best of luck for next year! At some point I will go back and do the last 60km, the question is do I try it in one day or two!?

Enjoyed the video and can understand why you chucked it - when the fun stops, stop.

Thank you so much! I appreciate your kind words and encouragement. Yes, the WHW will always be there when I'm ready to come back and finish it!

Different approach than mine. I took my time to walk the WHW in 10 Days to experience from landscape, culture and history as much as I can. But nice to see how to experience this trail in another way. Sorry to see it failed in the end, but anyway a brave achievement. Thank you for sharing.

Thank you for sharing your approach! Taking ten days to fully immerse in the landscape, culture, and history sounds like a wonderful way to experience the West Highland Way. It's fascinating to see how different people tackle the same trail in various ways. Although my attempt was different and didn't go as planned, it was still an incredible experience.

Great video thanks. Can I ask what rucksack you used please?

Thanks. I used (an old version of) the Ultimate Direction Fastpack 20. It holds about 23 litres, just about big enough for everything I need to an overnight fastpack. I've also got the Fastpack 30 which I use for trips over two days.

Fair play for chucking it, i found it boring in all honesty, the trail not the video.,if i ever go back i will tootle along taking it easy and ENJOYING it.👍

I'll probably feel compelled to complete it one day. I'll either just run the last 60km in a day or head out with the wife and do it a slower pace. either way I have plenty of other ideas in mind first, so it won't be any time soon.

I don't understand 'fastpacking'. I hiked the West Highland Way in April- to me, taking my time, soaking up the amazing scenery, chatting to people from all over the world along the way and feeling joy in nature is why I hike. I know everyone is different, but maybe take it slow sometime?

Thanks for your comments. I personally enjoy the physical challenge of pushing myself, I take a slower pace when I head out with the wife, like on our recent Cairngorm 4000's trip (another of my videos).

I agree with your comments on the fast pa what a fantastic route, all the same ching I think it is an individuals choice. I have tried both and enjoyed both but as I I’m getting older I don’t have any choice but a fantastic route just the same

Thank you for sharing your experience. The West Highland Way is indeed a beautiful trail with so much to offer, and it's great to hear you're taking the time to soak it all in over six nights and seven days. Attempting it in two days was definitely challenging, but it was an adventure I wanted to take on. Every hiker’s journey is different, and that’s part of what makes the WHW so special.

I think you were going too fast at the beginning. Personally, I would have gone slower, but many more hours of walking. That route can be walked in 48hrs at an average of 4km/h and even then you should still have over 10 hours to sleep. The question is whether you would enjoy walking at night, I take it as a diversion a few times a year.

Thanks, I like the challenge in trying to run it. With the long daylight hours in June, maybe walking it would have been a better option! Thanks for watching my attempt!

When it turns into level two fun, it’s time to stop. Thanks for sharing and more importantly being honest.

Absolutely, knowing when to stop is crucial, especially when challenging yourself on a trail like this. I'm glad you appreciated the honesty-it's important to share both the highs and the lows of these adventures. Thanks for watching!
