Jaws (Orlando) always scared the hell out of me as a kid, not because I thought it was a real shark, but because i had this irrational fear I could fall into that water with all of the hidden moving metal parts pulling me under and grinding me up. And the thought of some animatronic doing it without me seeing it coming made it exponentially worse.

The scariest thing to happen to me at a theme is park was when universal studios Hollywood had the walking dead walk through and my brother was pushing me through in my wheelchair when a scare actor jumped out to scare us and my brother knocked the poor guy down when he pushed forward out of fear

That does sound very scary. I am not wheelchair-bound but blind, and this may have contributed to my scariest, but also most fun experience. My brother and cousin and I went to a local theme park in my area, and all of us are scared as roller coasters. We wanted to start the day with a small roller coaster to work up to getting the bigger ones. My brother and cousins saw what they thought was a small roller coaster, but it was obscured by the lines. It was the most terrifying ride we went on the whole day, so it definitely got to start it off right. It was incredibly fun, but I didthink I was gonna die the whole time.

Got you beat. We broke down on Small World in one of the larger chorus rooms for nearly two hours. No evacuation, just a canned intercom voice asking us to be patient and wait for the ride to resume every five minutes or so. To our utter horror we learned that day that that miserable soundtrack never stops. I found out later in life that due to the complications of rebooting the system they keep it running 24/7/365 and it has been doing so for decades.

The earthquake ride I definitely remember and I won't lie; the part when the truck came sliding down definitely caught me off guard and did give me a tiny jump scare. I was 7 at the time; but I do remember at the Orlando Universal Studios park there was fictional studio effect team where you learn how practical effects are created. The cast members would ask people from the audience to participate and I ended up being one of them. The ride happened at the end after the scene you were tasked to make. Which included sound effects a member from the audience would create. I got stuck with being someone stuck in a building falling apart do to the earthquake. And just FYI to those interested; earthquake the ride was based on a very old disaster movie by same exact name. Came out in 1974 I believe.

The Dementors scene is freaky, but the scene with Aragog scares me way more. My first time on that Harry Potter ride can be used as my scariest theme park experience, since I had no idea that scene was coming. I have a huge fear of spiders, so I screamed really loud and was on the verge of crying during it. I knew during my second time on it this year to close my eyes at that part. My husband kept encouraging me to keep them open and face my fears, but I couldn’t bring myself to. 😓
@MissMed072 жыл бұрын
Same. I got so scared I actually blacked out at the spiders. Regained consciousness at the dementor attack. My dad got me a butter beer and I sat quietly drinking it in the corner traumatized. I wasn’t even a kid. I was 24 y’all.

The Aragog scene has scared me ever since I saw that video where the ride broke down and the riders were stuck IN FRONT of the giant spider for a while 😂 made me scared to go on the ride in case it happened to me (ride was fun tho, no incidents!)
@nickn271 Жыл бұрын
The dementor scene was scarier when the ride first opened. I'm not sure when/why they changed it but they used to have fog in the room and the dementor was better hidden until it was in your face.
@princesspixel31517 ай бұрын
I still remember riding that ride for the second time, this time with my mom, because I wanted to share the fun experience. If I remember correctly, the ride had to stop for a minute or two as we were in front of the whomping willow. Thankfully, it didn’t really scare us. It was more hilariously awkward than scary for us being stuck in front of that tree 🤣

As a kid, I was terrified of rides like Indiana Jones at Disneyland, the Jaws part of the Tram Tour in Universal, and California Adventure's Tower of Terror. As an adult, they have become my favorite attractions, and I know I'm guaranteed to get chills if I go on something like them again -- and while I'm not at all a horror fan and have -100% desire to experience Halloween events at the parks, I will always love that chilling memories of seeing the T-Rex emerging before the final drop; the giant cobra flashing its fangs at me as our car speeds away, seeing the shape of that shark a second before it surfaces from the water with its teeth on display. Knowing it's all fake and that I'm not going to be hurt is why I love it. It's the one moment somewhere that I can unleash my pent-up screams.

It's a short one, but the Giant Squid from 'Mysteries of the Nautilus' in the various Disney theme parks. It starts out with a giant, single tentacle that attacks the viewing window, battering it until it knocks the power out and plunges you into darkness. Then the iris closes while power is 'restored' (and also so they can swap the animatronic), then opens again to reveal the main body of the squid in all its glory, snapping at you with its beak while its tentacles thrash all around your field of view. The whole thing only lasts like three or so minutes, but it's a damn intense experience.

Can't speak for the Hollywood version of the ride, but as a former TM, let me say for the IoA version of Forbidden Journey: all the dementors in that final sequence with the soul-sucking animatronic are still there, just unlit. (They're very easily seen if you know where to look while riding or end up stuck there for an extended period). I remember one was missing its head, another had its head turned backwards, but from my understanding (just hearsay, as I wasn't a tech), because the scene wasn't meant to be seen and due to how high up all the animatronics were from the ground, there was no point in ever fixing them.

The Wizard of Oz scene in Phantasialand´s Hollywood Tour was originaly one from Alfred Hitchcock´s The Birds, it got changed after too many complaints of it being too scary. The original scene had several bird animatronics all over the place with some of them attacking a woman that was screaming for help. The makeover was fairly basic though, essentially all birds got removed, the female animatronic was more or less standing still with the "We're Not in Kansas Anymore" quote really being the only audio. This change was made in 2007, during that time sime parts of the Frankenstein scene got deactivated to make it less scary as well. The Birds was one of only two scenes on the ride that got ever rethemed to be a different movie. The other one was Samson & Delilah, this one got changed to be a Sindbad the Sailor themed scene, probably because the original one was fairly obscure.

The original Tower of Terror in Orlando when it opened. They had to modify that ride a couple times but the original was the most terrifying, they had two drops but one of the most terrifying parts was when the elevator got to the very top it would lean out of the Tower and lean forward very little but just enough to make you think you were going to be dumped out of the ride. They removed that part shortly after and now it's only a shadow of its former self.

I was fortunate enough to get to ride Jaws boat ride in Universal Orlando once in 96'. I was 11 at the time. However, I happened to be in the seat closest to where the shark attacks the boat. I pretty much jumped on the laps of some family members to my left. I heard a lot of screaming and looking around, I realized it was me. That was the last time I went on that one. This one happened to my cousin Emily during that same vacation. We went on Alien Encounter in Disney World - The one that was replaced with Stitch's Great Escape. During the part where the alien breaks out and flies around the room, my cousin David, who was sitting next to her, reached over and grabbed the back of her neck, making her scream. The whole audience heard that scream, and I found out on the way out what really happened. Emily thought that was part of the experience until David told her it was him. She wasn't happy about that one. That still makes us laugh.

Jaws is precisely the reason why I’m terrified of any body of water I can’t see the bottom of, as well as why submerged statues and mechanical objects scare the absolute hell out of me. The idea of being in a body of water and not only not being able to see the bottom/end of it but potentially seeing some kind of object or statue beneath me is horrifying. Whether it be a plane wreck, the RMS Titanic, or that statue of Jason Voorhees that some dude named Zachary Nagy built and dropped in the bottom of Lake Pleasant, I will not be going into anything bigger than a creek. It’s the same reason why I’m terrified of outer space. I don’t know what’s out there, I don’t know where it ends, so I’m not going in there.
