I just ordered the same train as yours. Picked up a couple Pennsylvania ore cars at menards but may return and order the 6 or 8 car pack. You have a nice layout, I am picking up menards track to play with layout design a bit. I got 4 of the track adapters to cones to the two types of track but also have been browsing fb marketplace for used track

In update #2 Did you paint the entire partical board? Is that White or Lt. Gray you painted? How many coats did you apply on the board? Are you afraid if you have lots of humidity in your basement that the board might get weak and crumble?Can you use anything else besides screws to secure the Fastrack to the MDF Board? BTW the term you were trying to figure out on the main line is called a siding. A siding can be as short as 4 long car lengths. You can find sidings almost everywhere for storing cars that are going to or coming from a Warehouse or Factory or a very long siding to give a longer train the right-a-way and then you can go on when it is all clear. A Yard is where the cars go into a siding that will lead them to the entrance of the yard.The main line from either side enters the siding that will take you to a hump (a small little hill that is in the middle of the entering track so when the car disengage from the rest of the cars it will then roll down the track slowing down everytime it passes a break track so it can sort the cars to there proper siding so the next locomotive will pick-up the cars necessary for the next part of the trip.) The MDF sheets I used are not painted. My basement gets pretty humid at times but I have not experienced any issues with the wood or warpage after a full year. You can use screws, hot glue, white glue to attach fastrack to the table. I prefer either screws or white glue.
