A couple of years I went to a bike shop to buy some sealant and they had the first stumpjumper 6fattie (27.5x3.0) for sale. I thought it looked funny but took it for s spin. came back and was like "shut up and take my money... " still one of the most fun bikes I ever owned. Only for pure technical downhill I ride something else.

Just finished watching your video about Fat Bikes vs Plus Bikes. Loved the comparison. I have owned 5 fat bikes so far. Absolutely love to ride them year round here in Colorado. You should rerun the test with the proper fat bike tires: Schwalbe Jumbo Jim 4.0 (TL-SS) front and back. You will be shocked at the difference over the Kendas you had.
@aroundoz3 жыл бұрын
I was thinking the same thing. Those JJs 4.0 would definitely confuse things and make it decide which is "better."

I just picked up the cannondale beast of the east 2 plus size and all I can say is OMG its amazing. You think that with 3" tires there is more resistance but it's not, it's smooth and easy to ride. My 1995 cannondale beast of the east weighs 25.2 lbs and the new beast of the east 2 comes in at just 29.8 lbs. They look heavier than they are but they are easy to ride and and a lot of fun. I am hooked.

I used to only ride fat on snow but this year I started to ride it on relatively flat rock-and-root trails near my house...it is so much more fun than my XC bike on these trails. I normally would ride them once or twice a year on the XC but now I am doing a ride a week on the fattie.

+Ikreisrond yeah, I'm a wrench here in Slovakia and so pretty sceptical about 27,5" trend. 29" is slowly diyng out here. Funny thing is that I'm 195 cm tall and still prefer really small frames with big wheels. Yeah, and you can get all of pretty good 26" things for dirt cheap, so why to change to something another? Everything is now 27,5" and 1x drivetrain. I will laugh if in about 10 years trends will come to 2x or 3x drivetrains and 26" as a new "radical and fresh trend" These switchbacks happened before.

I am thinking about the specialized ladies fat bike for snow, sand and adding an element of fun to my life. I like the extra shock absorption, the extra grip, but I worry about the precision, agility and resistance. I already have a ladies specialized regular mtn bike and it is killer awesome on climbing and down trails, but I am currently not riding in winter. I was hoping the fat bike would incent me to get out there all winter instead of cross county, skiing and snow shoeing. I also go down to Arizona, and I didn't enjoy my regular mtn bike on the sand. Thoughts?

Please do a "How to ride Rock Gardens"
@thomasmedeiros57226 жыл бұрын
Andreas Svart First you need to pick a line and look ahead at rocks that you can clear and those that might stop you. Momentum is your friend and avoid sharp turns that will slow you if possible. Sometimes scoping out a line by walking the bike through is helpful. If you fail go back and try again. We have been riding our local trails with their rock gardens and roots for 25 years. Practice will help. I use to go out on my own and practice days I was not riding them on a group ride. In a group it is helpful to have skilled riders tow you in ( lead) with you following their line.

I love my Fatboy, but hate it on the trail. It's just too much work compared to a more traditional mountain bike and not nearly as precise. Mine has a carbon fork, so it's either going to be a rough or bouncy ride, depending on tire pressure. Northern Michigan along the lake shores or in the winter, and a fat bike is amazing.

Just bought a 2018 stumperjumper 29/6fattie. Coming from a riding a fully rigid Surly Krampus i wish i would have just gotten a 27.5+ hardtail like the Specialized Fuse. Luckily the stumpjumper wheel sizes are interchangable, so I'm gonna swamp over and give the 27.5+ and try. Riding a 29 wheel with a 2.3 wide tyre sucks so bad. The traction is horrible. Maybe i ought to ride a lower psi or something. I miss riding on plus tyres and will soon do so again. Great vid btw!
@seaze20607 жыл бұрын
How easy is it to change the plus size tire and rims with more of a "road friendly" setup? obviously the clearance is there. Is it as easy as finding a spare set of rims and road tires? Would really like to know.
@eBikerHowie8 жыл бұрын
Not really a fair test. The fat bike was equipped with the slowest tires made. Try this test again with Schwalbe Jumbo Jim 4.0 tires and be amazed at how much of a difference they make in terms of speed, directonality and agility. I have used both tires and the difference is night and day. Also, check your tire pressures. No more than 10psi for trail riding. Cheers.

It seemed that the extra rubber makes the bike more bouncy, isnt it hard to control especially one the root/rocky sections. you loose the steering control since its more bouncy. What if you have hybrid bikes with fat wheel on back and narrow in front? good grip and traction on back while more controlled steering without bouncig around.
