Awesome episode! Have a lot of respect for Dr Campbell and glad to hear he’s changing his direction to women and menopause. I’m 42, been consistently tracking food, have played with my macros and calories (keep around 2,000-2200 for main/gain, 1600 for fat loss phase), get 10,000 steps for the last 3 years I started consistently strength train 3 days a week for over a year now, prioritizing sleep and still struggle to lose fat. I have InBodys every 1-3 months consistently on the same day of the month and my SMM fluctuates around up and down 2-3 points. I keep my protein high as well. Started HRT to include TRT 9 months ago. Despite all of this, my muscle gain and fat loss is almost non existent, just maintaining. Very frustrating in this phase of life for sure.

Possible key if cycling off a ketogenic diet (topic late in the interview) is to swap out "slow carbs" for dietary fat. The high dietary fat will keep us in temporary insulin resistance... I've been trying that over the past year or so, cutting back on fats, increasing lean proteins and a bit more carbs in a TMAD or OMAD framework...the latter with weekend break days for refeeding that include a lot of steel cut oats. Trying to keep that leptin up while maintaining as much lean mass as possible. Great interview!

Excellent conversation Cynthia… Dr Bill is OUTSTANDING in his field!! I had my hysterectomy at 42, went on HRT immediately & at 63 continue to stay lean & strong 🦾. It’s not easy but cover the basics & little tweaks here & there👍👍

For Thanksgiving I enjoyed a piece of homemade key lime pie for dessert. It was delicious. Haven't had a sweet dessert in 8 mths since starting low carb , IF. When I checked my blood sugar a bit after my thanksgiving meal & dessert, it was 112. I think my body knew what to do with what I ate😊 I'm no longer pre diabetic and 21 lbs down♡ I think taking a diet break is especially nice on holidays and special occasions.

Ohhh this was a good one Cynthia! I love how Bill broke down the nuances in all these studies and perceptions of each fitness groups. The textbook “body type” for each models are different as well as how we change post menopausal plus endomorph ectomorph etc. just wondering how each type works to lose weight and eat what’s best for our younger kids this was good stuff!

I think this is really a N+1 thing. I struggle to gain weight and gain fat. My calorie is twice my husband’s. I cannot gain and he cannot lose 😢😢😢. My body fat is always below 15%. We both do resistance training, protein centric, and eat healthy Whole Foods. The key difference is I am a natural fat burner, and I eat tons of fat. He burns carbs mainly.

Me too!! I’m 63 with hypothyroidism (5’2” 112 lbs). I make sure to track EVERYTHING I put in my mouth through My Fitness Pal and never go over 1,100 calories. If I do, for some reason, I eat less the next day or two to make sure my weekly calories don’t go over 7,000. It’s such a struggle but that’s the only way I can maintain my weight. (I also do moderate weight lifting and walking 8,009-10,000 steps per day .) Wish they had a better solution for us!! Good luck!🙏

That's not enough calories. The key is eating more fat, protein, and very low carbs.

@@Ranch-girl Your body requires more than 1000 calories just to stay functioning properly (at rest, let alone moving around). If you don't give it enough to do that, it will skimp on lower priority functions (I don't know which, specifically, but I would assume things like hair and nails and probably many other things). The metabolism slows down as the body tries to conserve energy.

@@Poecilia1963 Then how do we maintain body weight? I have been keto or low carb for years. Everyone says calories don’t matter but they seem to matter for me, no matter which “diets” I have tried. I’m open to any suggestions.
