Someone has maybe already posted this, but it has been confirmed that Rei has no connection to the Kurosawa family in Minakami village. What she does have is a relation to the Kurosawa family from Mount Hikami in Fatal Frame 5. She has been stated to be a relative of Hisoka Kurosawa, but it's unclear how closely they are related. That's why she could defeat and calm down Reika's spirit, because she had something akin to the Mitori ability which Kurosawa shrine maidens had on Mount Hikami

Really good video, just some minors errors: 1 You butcher a lot of the names of the characters (I undestand why i saw a lot of americans talking about anime characters and butchering their names too so dont worry) 2 Rei is a descendent from the Kurozawa family from the 2nd game because shes a related to Hisoka from Maiden (And Hisoka in the guidebook its stated that she and rei are familiar and in the game Hisoka and Ryokan are family too) 3 Yeah Mafuyu, Yuu and Kei are friends but the 3 of them worked for Junsei Takamine (The last boss from chapter 1 in FF if you cant remember the name) 4 More like a add on or a trivia fact Rei symbolically takes on the role of the priestess just like Mio and Mayu with Yae and Sae, that why she can see others people dreams. (I kinda understand that you didnt talk about Mikus pregnancy cus im asume your going to talk about in the next video so thats ok) Again a really good video keep with the great work... And come on i know you already toldme that your not into Rule of Rose but give that game another chance

Thanks :) But I still have to specify some moments: 2. Yeah, I saw that Hisoka mentioned Rei, but they must be REALLY distant relatives. Because if they are, this family had to have at least one boy for at least a couple of generations (to save this exact surname). 3. Yep, I know this, but since I tried to use as few names as possible and it wasn't really THAT important in my opinion, I decided not to mention it. 4. Yeah, you are right, but I thought it was obvious, so I only clarified why Miku and Kei could see those dreams. Speaking about Miu...that's quite a topic, actually :D I mean there were precedents in Japan where cousins could marry each other to save a clan's power. But in this case, it just doesn't seem right. Especially considering that it happened while Miku was asleep, if I understood everything correctly...But yes, we'll talk about it. 1. Here I'm really interested :) I mean, I studied Japanese at university and I'm absolutely positive that I pronounce everything right. Except for "R", but that would be a showoff. So, I'm really interested in what you mean by me butchering Japanese names.

I appreciate your help when we talk about the lore of Fatal Frame, but in this case I have to stand my ground. I am one of the few authors that know how to read, write and speak Japanese. The least I can do is to check the kanji and how they are read properly. 🙂 So, no "Kunaamee", but all short "Ka-na-me". No "Kurosaawu" (they don't even have "wu" as a syllable and don't lengthen "a"), but Kurosawa. They write "Asou" and "Yuu" but in Japanese they write "u" after some vowels to lengthen the sound. So "Asou" is read not like "AsoU", but "Aso- (with long O). Once again, I pronounced "R" in "Rei" and "Reika" differently, but that was done on purpose. So, when I talk about Japanese names you may be confident in me 😁👍🏼 I even had an idea about making a video about Japanese names in a game. So, if you have any questions considering this stuff - I'll be glad to help ✌🏼

It is always the same story: a portal, crevice or hole through which the dead can return to haunt the living. Apparently, in Japan, every detached house comes equipped with one of these. To prevent such a tragedy, one or more women have to be tortured through random rituals. But the new girl, the main characters, is 'special', she is not like the previous ones... Although yes, they all run in the same stupid way. And this is good writing? 🙄🙄🙄

I'll give you my point of view. When you start thinking about stories and storytelling, you realize that there are not so many TRULY original ideas. Especially after reading books like "Symbols of Transformation" by Jung or quite popular "The Hero with a Thousand Faces" by Campbell. The core is almost always the same. Take a look and Marvel's origin movies - they are almost identical. It's the same thing when someone says that cliche is ALWAYS something bad. It's really not. A cliche is something that works and something that's proven its value. But, you can use a cliche poorly, or you can use it wisely. Speaking about games. First and foremost I have to disagree with this statement: "But the new girl, the main characters, is 'special'". In the first game, Miku went after her brother (it would be wiser to call the police, but stupid decisions are pretty much inherent in the horror genre) with the ability to see ghosts. Mio and Mayu from the second part were not special, they entered the Minakami village by accident mostly. In the third game, Rei could literally die because of a series of events. Kei could die. Most of the characters are pretty human-like. They are still subject to the power of the curse, they are still afraid to die. And they MAY die. Japanese is a high context culture and probably from their games, most players learned this approach, where you dive into the story as deep as YOU (as a player) would like to. Sometimes you have to make some extra effort to understand everything completely. (Maybe I'll talk about it in another video) Rituals and cameras of the Fatal Frame series are the same distinctive features as high difficulty in FromSoftware games or a rocket launch at the end of most Resident Evil games. The context of what's happening in the game is completely different, although the core of the plot may be the same. Besides, you should always keep in mind, that creating a game is not that easy. And sometimes I just adore how Japanese storytelling leaves some threads or connect stories in a complete narration. THIS game did something the previous ones didn't - it united all previous games together. It showed that the events of the previous games happen in the same universe and not only those events, but the main characters are somehow connected to each other. And not only that. I mentioned it in this video and in the video about FromSoftware games, but I don't really mind when some elements move from game to game, especially when they serve a purpose and exist for a reason. Yes, I have to admit that storytelling and technologies have grown in the past several years (along with some sh*tty things like microtransactions in a full-price game or NFTs for god's sake...). We should also keep in mind that this game was released 17 (!) years ago. And I have to keep it in mind. And the fact that it keeps your attention after 17 years - it's quite good, don't you think? I can partly understand you and I also mentioned it in the previous video about Elden Ring. When you watch or play these games in a row, yeah, it may look repetitive just like God of War did, for example. The core mechanics of 6(!) games didn't change, and only in 2018, this series got a reboot. But were those games bad? No. They were praised to high heavens, despite the same cycles of gameplay and even the same moves! So, in general, if you put some things in a vacuum, then yes, some elements may look lazy and repetitive. But if you look at the same things in the context of time, gameplay, other games, trends, and storytelling, it shines differently.
