I like how these older beats had really individual drums & sounds. Today, we hear the same old snare, kick & flabby bass. In fact, even though this was labelled 'big beat' (what ever that may be), artists around about this time very much had their own sound. No one wanted to sound like another generic DJ. That only came later, after all the best fucked off to Ibiza or whatever! *Fatboy Slim, The Prodigy, Leftfield, Crystal Method, Sneaker Pimps, Lamb, Portishead, Daft Punk, Fluke, The Chemical Brothers, Massive Attack, Lemon Jelly, Morcheeba, Basement Jaxx, Uncle, Orbital, Kosheen, Björk, Pomegranate, The Future Sound Of London, Halou, Faithless, Baxter, Zero 7* & many more class acts which today.. all sound very authentic. If I had known just how special all this music was, I would have paid it a bit more attention instead of wasting my days away on Goldeneye64! But we all just took it for granted ya know? It's sad to see what the industry has become now all the small labels are no more. You NEEDED those to fish out the most unique sound scientists to give em' all exposure. A chance to shine & make a contribution; we all know good music takes hold & influences others to produce quality shit. This is why there's so much utter bilge around these days.

5:48 Alfred Matthew Hubbard (July 24, 1901-August 31, 1982) was an early proponent for the drug LSD during the 1950s. He is reputed to have been the "Johnny Appleseed of LSD" and the first person to emphasize LSD's potential as a visionary or transcendental drug.[1] According to Todd Brendan Fahey, Hubbard introduced more than 6,000 people to LSD, including scientists, politicians, intelligence officials, diplomats, and church figures.[2]

Indeed, a well done video. That said, most early LSD experiments were not sinister. This was a time of new wonder drugs, and doctors wondered if LSD could improve mental performance and help psychological casualties like the shell-shocked or PTSD recover. Sadly, this was wrong. Servicemen also made great test subjects from a researcher point of view, because they had far fewer outside variables than did civilians. With active duty servicemen, the doctors could know what they were doing at any given time of day or night, and even what they were eating and drinking at mess or chow.

The early LSD experiments weren't sinister, but the ones performed under the auspices of MKULTRA certainly were. They gave LSD and other hallucinogens to unconsenting subjects, without their knowledge that they were even being drugged, often. This was implicated in the death of at least one known person, Frank Olson, who either committed suicide or was murdered three days after being unwittingly dosed at a party This video's narrative leaves it ambiguous as to whether the pilot actually knew he was being drugged. (I think it also leaves it ambiguous as to whether anything in the flight sequence actually happens, as well.) I do love how the actor who plays the pilot has the exact kind of small, wiry physique that fighter pilots had in those days. (He's not wearing the right sort of wristwatch, though -- it should have been large and silver with a metal band.)
