Rather than mentally unwell, I'd say the trope here is "characters who seem normal but during the second part of the story show how they really were but you didn't realize" and recontextualizes everything. Shirou, the bad Shiki, BB, Kirschtaria, Oberon, Castoria, Rin, Soujuurou, Elisabeth... yeah this is Nasu's fetish.

Iori isn't exactly like Kirei in that he doesn't explicitly find joy in other's suffering. He lives for the thrill of battle, the fight to the death. His entire character can basically be summed up like that.

He could have become an executor then? DA are still rampant in the modern day and those above rank 5 are close to servants in physical power if not anything else while even the weakest of DAA's are at the level of servants with the top tier DAA's being closer to the Divine Spirits in power.

That's why he's like Kirei. Kirei strived to live happy when he couldn't due what made him feel realized. For Kirei it is joy in suffering, for Iori it is fighting for the sword without morals restricting him. Both live in worlds which doesn't allow them to pursue what makes them happy.

@@rindou97 Nasuverse is a world filled with conflict. I don't think he'd have a lack of foes to slaughter if joined the demon hunter organization or the( as unlikely as that ) the Holy Church. @@SiegfriedFafnirsbane He could have joined Zheng in his doomed war. But he decided to not do it. And, again, I didn't say Iori is like Kirei 1:1. I say his conflict is pretty similar since he lives in a country where the path of the sword is no longer needed but his blade seeks to improve by spilling blood. They both tried to live properly in a society where his deepest wishes are not morally correct. Iori is a person whose sense of morals is akin to Shirou, his inversion impulso and thrist similar de Shiki (without being completely mental and a rapist) and his moral conflict comparable to Kirei.

@@rindou97 That's correct. Also your commet just made me realize that Iori might be Shiki's ancestor similar to how Muramasa is Shirou's ancestor. @zarithevill
@zarithevill 9 ай бұрын
@@rabbss830 Nope, every ending in Fate are considered True as it its multiversal meaning each ending diverges & creates new branches of universes. That's why we have Bad Kirei from FSN and Good Kirei from F/Illya and reasons why different versions of Jeanne exists to be summoned as it is multiversal. Each ending routes just give better contexts for you to puzzle together because this "Entreat the Darkness" ending still have plotholes for Zheng and Yui. Besides, Iori actually have 2 wishes which are to "master the sword' and "have Kaya live a happy life" but both wishes contradict with one-another due to Kaya housing Otachibana-Hime and thus if Iori let the Waxing Moon go-on then it will jeopardize Kaya. I bet you 100% that 3 different Iori's will be summon-able in Fate/Grand Order - Good Iori, Bad/Altered Iori and the Joke Iori from Gilgamesh/Boss ending as all of those Ioris have been recorded within the Throne of Heroes due to their respective feats. Fate's "True Ending" doesn't mean that it's something you unlock in "NG+" unlike other games because if it is then it's like saying F/Stay night's Realta Nua is "True" when in reality it's Not True due to the fact that each FSN endings actually gave birth to different respective games/medias.

Even in the modern Age we see plenty of Horrendous threats and powerfull entities in Case files and Adventures of Lord el melloi. Did no one tell Iori of the existence of the 27 DAA? He could have become an executor or Enforcer in the Clocktower since he knows magecraft.He would have found plenty of powerfull foes.

@Patcheresu 9 ай бұрын
@@SiegfriedFafnirsbane Iori is in a "Fate" pruned timeline, not a "Tsukihime" pruned timeline. The DAA are either contained or not even really active in the year this takes place in. The point is that a person who exists only to prove themselves in the death of others like Iori is meaningless in this time of peace. That's what makes it so tragic. If Iori was from Proper Human History, he could have ascended to the Throne of Heroes and lived a perfect afterlife, constantly crossing swords. But Pruned Timeline, era of Peace, he will never achieve the one thing he wants the most. Interestingly enough, choosing this path leads to the least amount of bloodshed of any ending. Only the bad guys die. Everyone else who could have died in Chapter 6 is spared.

yes , Musashi knew Iori's nature , and still called him kind , and teached him to live in an era of peace. In the whole HGW , Iori choose the more pacific while Saber choose the more warlike options. Koxinga himself asked Iori to go with him to China and wage war with him , something that could definetely satisfy his blade , yet Iori denied and even Musashi says Iori wouldn't choose that. Iori in the "Ray of Light" , says he will not falter. Which is why this one is a "Bad Ending" , it's one in which Iori's will falters to his impulses. It's not unlike Tohno Shiki faltering to his impulses. It's just that such "bad ending" is the one in which Iori is the happiest , that is the twist. id say its the canon ending cause it completes Iori's arc which builds up through both playthroughs of the game, also when you get the other two endings a message pops up about "the thirsting sword not yet being quenched" only in this ending is Iori contented and put to rest. the logbook ending of the other two ending implies it further, with Iori getting a happy ending with at added line at the end of "this is how it should be... right?"

Fate/Samurai Remnant? Nah. *Fate/Sekiro Remnant.* Wolf & Iori secretly crave blood but fight to obtain/protect a vessel of mythical power that may grant someone’s wish and can really only be stopped by a “God of the Sword” who is like a friend to them.

Wow. I got the true ending in my game and came here to watch this. This ending would have come out of absolutely nowhere if it was in my game. Iori was like a completely different person. So glad I didn’t get this one. I don’t like this Iori at all.

Spoiler Alert! Honestly, the so called 'Bad End', as well as Iori's reasoning and motives are kind of stupid. He laments being in the wrong era, yet casually and conveniently 'forgets' he was offered the choice to be placed in one, one where he could have continued his swordsmanship. Zheng had made multiple offers to him to join him in China to help him with his cause (and an open offer to join him if Iori ever feels like it); and unlike certain Masters, Zheng survives in ALL routes and is still in Edo by the end of the Ritual, so there's no excuse for disregarding this offer. Not wanting to leave Japan and Kaya is a far stretch, since he's already subtly ascertained that Kaya could still live a happy life even without him wishing for it (or him at all) when Saber asked about his wish in one of the later chapters. And as for Japan, you could've told that he didn't really care for it considering his wish at the end in the bad route. It's just poor writing in my opinion that conveniently forces him into said silly decision that makes no sense whatsoever all for the sake of just having a 'Bad Route' forced into the game. Could have written a better Bad Route; one where the 15th Servant was successfully sacrificed, the Waxing Moon being used for something detrimental to Edo or unleashed upon Japan, and the only way to save Edo is some series of battle to the death thereby ending with the sacrifice of Iori and Saber after successfully saving Edo.

Yeah, his wish doesn't make sense. I like to think that he just came up with it as an excuse to fight with Saber to the death.

The problem of Zheng's offers is that Lori doesn't seek for killing. He seeks to master swords, but he has been one of the greatest swordman/samurai in his era as he defeats Musashi the berserker. He can slaught in the war but that doesn't make him happy. Once he defeated most of the servants, the only one left, which is also the one he has been dreaming of defeating, is Saber.

Sadly his wish makes sense: he wants to hone his blade and doesn't care for anything else. That said, to me, Iori comes off as an edgy teen in that ending, that's what I don't like about it. What doesn't work that well is how abrupt it feels. If there was a full blown chapter, and Kaya/Tachibana being involved to give Iori one more chance at staying on the path of peace (with no avail ofc) I would have accepted it better. I guess the way it should be interpreted (took me 3 months to come to that conclusion) is that Saber understood Iori was impossible to reason with and gave him a final farewell in the form of a duel to the death. As a friend, that's the best he could do. Either way, I still hate that I have liked this guy for 100 hours and they decided to tell me I was mistaken in the last 30 minutes of it. Even with the signs I had hope it wouldn't go that way. Alas that's what it is. Iori made me realize I like Kirei because he is an antagonist who chose to do evil, I'm not supposed to sympathize with him. Seeing him be defeated is a joy. Seeing Iori be defeated just gave a pokerface... I cried when Kaya appeared though. I want to like this ending for what it means, but there's too much I hate about it for that, including how it robbed my affection for the entire game. It will take time. Best of luck to everyone in my situation lol

@@waizoongwong6930 That's like looking at a tree and purposefully averting your gaze at the forest. I'm sure there'll be plenty of skilled masters (swordsman etc) in China. Just not at Servant level, which is silly either way because a Servant has stats and magical powers boosted by myths etc, so he shouldn't be comparing himself against them in the first place. Musashi is a special case in that she's disappearing and not really capable of going all out at that point I think.

@@azerosblank5036 after analyzing it thoroughly I agree with you. Even if people were to say he only wanted to fight strong servant-level opponents like Saber, that doesn't really match with his apparent wish to throw Japan into an endless war. If war is all he needs, then he should've just gone with Zheng. But if all he wanted was to fight against servant-level opponents like Saber, what was with the wish to throw Japan into war? It's not exactly gonna be a HGW in the first place. Its just gonna be people most likely weaker than him acting as mobs for him to easily slash through, not really something he'd be looking for. My personal HC is that his wish to throw Japan into endless chaos and war was just probably something; a convenient excuse he came up with to force Saber into a duel against him, like what someone previously said

Personally, the way they did this ending really ruined the whole story for me. I honestly hate how they forced this as being the “way the story should definitively end”, rather than allowing all the endings to work separately like Stay Night. Also, his motivations for this end just don’t make much sense to me. For much of the game, he feels well written. But with this end, if feels like they took some of that writing and tried to cram it into a mould that feels a bit like a cross between Fate/Zero’s Kirei and Goku.
