History of Fatehpur Sikri :
Fatehpur Sikri is known to be a town in the Agra District of Uttar Pradesh India. The city was founded as Mughal Capital in 1571 by the mughal Emperor Akbar, who served his this role from 1571 to 1585 after which Akbar abandoned this place due to scarcity of water.
The name of the city is known to be derived from the village situated here named Sikri which actually occupied this spot before. An excavation from Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) from the year 1999 to 2000 also showed habitation as well as some temples and commercial centres here before Akbar actually built his capital here. The region was known to be settled by Sungas following their expansion. In the 12th century it was controlled by Sikarwar Rajputs for a short period of time.
But before Akbar chose this site for his capital city his predecessors Babur and Humayun actually redesigned the urban layout of Fatehpur Sikri's. Attilio Petruccioli who is a well known scholar of Islamic architecture as well as Professor of Landscape Architecture at the Polytechnic University .

UNESCO World Heritage Site in the year 1986.
