I like that translation of "in a jiffy." I remember after Corridor Crew, reading someone's more literal translation of "It's so fast" which I thought was an unusual way to respond, but took it to double mean, time flies. In a jiffy gets the meaning across better. The train is so fast, it'll take no time at all!

I thought about it for a while! I also considered "blink". The literal meaning is an untranslatable idiom, "It's only an Ah! sound." The dictionary provides the English idiom "In the blink of an eye", but I didn't think it worked in this context, so I picked "jiffy".

@@EiriSanada I can imagine some pedantic person going "in the blind of an eye" would work better, to add to the passing of time of his girl growing up as well as the train trip, pretty much happening, in a blink of an eye. But yeah, I always find localization translations choices fascinating to read stories behind.

Literally “in the time it takes to say “ah”. Could also be “it takes no time at all” or “it’s past before you know it” etc. Can’t say Im a huge fan of jiffy, but there is no good way to translate it. Anything short and truncated like poetry, song lyrics, and commercials with 3 lines is super difficult.

​@@pumpkinhill4570 I grew less fond of my choice a week later but by then it was too late to redo the video. It's why I mention "blink". There are so many layers of meaning in how the CM uses the phrase, and I thought 'jiffy' could cover it all, even though it's a British term. It was agony.

"It will be a jiffy" or "It's in a jiffy" is a good work of translation, but there is a discussion of last translation of father's response. According to metaphor of the father's words to daughter "Tokyo .... is quite far" and the daughter responded "It is a jiffy". The original Japanese is "sodayo ne", I think "Well.....yeah." would be better than "Yeah..." in this context of scenarios.

I could probably write an article on my decision making process at the time, since I was dissecting each line and trying to match it to a similar English colloquialism for each moment in context. For "Soudayone", I believe I was trying to make it match the feeling that he was drifting off with his words.

The girls are aging, so they’re not even supposed to be the same. The guys are the challenge, which is why they made them up to look as similar as possible, and then had them doing something with their hands in each scene that lasts a second or less. Your attention is on the action then on to the next one. It’s very clever direction that makes it work.
