Father, Dear Father was just one of many TV shows that were adapted for Australian audiences. Others were Love Thy Neighbour in Australia; Are You Being Served?; Doctor Down Under; Benny Hill Down Under; and The Two Ronnies.

Brilliant show from a more civilised age! Works so well in Oz too! Cargill is excellent as ever as is Nanny! So funny! Like the fact that the ladies are Patrick’s nieces and his daughters are not forgotten back in England!

Hi Steve, I rememner watching all the episodes of Father , dear Father, ( Australia) on youtube a year ago when lockdown began . I notice now that except for the above one, I can’t seem to retrieve them again ???? Have they been removed at all ? Also, would it possible to upload the British seasons 1-7 , or on which channels could these seasons be streamed ? Would LOVE ❤️ to see them all again 🙏🙏🙏🙏

Patrick Glover, the character, was called upon by his brother in Australia (I think he had more than one) to look after his nieces whilst he went away somewhere, I believe!
@jacksugden81903 жыл бұрын
@@arthurvasey I never understand how Glover’s daughters, as old as they were, were still living at home, other point was they continued to call their father “daddy” which I though was a bit odd, anyway it was harmless in its day, even so today with H. G. Wells his dog so relaxing don’t you think.

@@jacksugden8190 Sitcoms back then were either set in normal domestic environments, but saw kids doing things that got them into trouble, or they were set in unusual environments, creating unusual situations at the time that are probably acceptable today - Man About The House - a man sharing a flat with two girls - Mixed Blessings - white man marries black woman (although no racist issues were tackled - it wasn’t actually unusual, inasmuch as it wasn’t normal - but it was never seen in a sitcom) - Love Thy Neighbour - never seen on telly these days, as the language is considered racist!

A lot of the English sitcoms saw some of the leading actors decamp to Australia and live amongst the Australians and adapt to life down under - such as walking around upside down, having summer in the middle of winter, winter in the middle of summer, daytime at night, nighttime in the day (time difference), shows like Love Thy Neighbour, Father, Dear Father (would have been better titled Uncle, Dear Uncle, as the girls are his nieces and not his daughters, in this incarnation), the series originally titled Doctor In The House saw two of the characters decamp to Australia!
