That big male was right on his limits. The lionesses sensed it, the male was flinching and snapping at the cubs, he was barely tolerating them. One of the lionesses even got between and moved him away. Also notice the fresh mark on the side of his mouth, looks like he got swatted (edited out). The piano music is an attempt to soften the scene, but I'm sure that film crew saw some violent outbursts.

Being a male lion over a pride, it's a very stressfull responsibility,you can see it here where the father is trying to relax, you see how he respond when his cubb is trying to play,a male lion has to be on guard at all time frm other lion takeover, that's why it's very crucial to form a coalition with one or two more big kick ass warrioring males,don't try to do it alone because it's too dangerous ,there are too many nomads in colitions is lurking for the big takeover!
