This happen at Perth Airport on 19/08/2022. It appeared the son had not been able to see his father for quite some time, as both were crying by the end. At least about 20-30 stopped to watch, and we all stood in awe of this impressive emotional display.

I was already crying within 5 seconds. We have forgotten the importance of culture, tradition and respect. I hope his son carries on this tradition. Now a days, we get caught up in the busyness of our modern world with a quick text message to say, "Hey Dad, I landed see you when I get home" or fist bump is NOT enough. This public form of tradition, touched me.

@@lookingglass5369 I hear you. A few years ago I'd agree with you because it's hollering and pounding fists, which is naturally intimidating. KZbin "wedding haka translation". There is a haka performed at a wedding with subtitles so one can understand what is being shouted. It's love they speak of in that haka. Fierce love. And although I don't know exactly what this man is saying to his son at the airport, I now understand it as fierce love. We could be so lucky. Stay good lookingglass. Edit: if you have time, after watching the wedding haka translation, try finding the entire wedding haka that isn't translated. Lot's of love, especially at the end. Peace.

Even though I don't know much about New Zealand culture, I would at least recognize what was happening only because I've been to the Hawaiian islands and have seen a presentation of this and similar things. I think it's extremely important for the elders to pass on the traditions of the culture and I know they do too. If you've never seen this before, it is definitely intimidating when you see the facial expressions and if you were an outsider approaching the village you would be greeted like this but they would have weapons. Very intimidating but very very cool to see and experience.

But it’s not really hurting anyone, just maybe a bit annoying and attention seeking. But also if this was going to be done anywhere, an airport would be appropriate!
