I am a social worker in Oregon and I found out one of the folks I have on my caseload didn’t have water and watching your videos gave me enough courage to assess the issue, pull his water pump up out of the casing and replace it (his brother was a great help in this) and sink another pump down. As of the Saturday night before Christmas they now have running water! I am so happy I could help out with something they were never going to be able to afford if they hired it out. We taped off the power line about every 6 feet! A local charity did come in and reimburse me for the cost of the new pump. The time I spent doing that work was a lot more rewarding than the usual time behind a desk doing paperwork! Thank you so much for your KZbin site and providing education. Many years ago, about 40, I worked as a mechanic on a heliportable siesmic drilling crew. We drilled with the same type of drilling equipment just smaller.We used 4 inch down hole pnuematic hammers. Funny when I saw our pipe wipers brought back memories. We caalled them assholes or Bobs, I used to go by Bob when I was younger. We normally worked in the Yukon or Nwt drilling 50 to 60 ft shot holes. Merry Christmas to you and your crew. Do enjoy your vids.

My great uncle and grandfather drilled wells with the old fashioned dynamite and shovels and later my uncle bought a used well rig that spudded the wells in. Most often they would hit water.

Hey Phil! I know y’all don’t get the cold down there that we get up here in Canada, but what I’d do is run a set of coolant hoses from the cooling system on the rig motor to the cooling system on your traction motor. Keeps hot antifreeze flowing through your motor while you’re drilling, and if you plumb it correctly it could warm up the rig motor while you’re driving to the well site. Just a thought!

A temperature sensor on hydraulic fluid is helpful even if its too hot. Some use hydraulic cooling equipment.

I have to say this!! I have watched alot of their videos!! I understand if people don't understand how this process works.. In my opinion this guys are truly good about the business... I work in the oilfield.. Same thing is being done to get natural gas, on a bigger scale and they go down thousands of feet.. And it takes a lot of time to go thru granite.. Plus this company explains about water wells that i never knew.. and what to expect..

2009 we had a well drilled at our property in Lodi. They drilled a 18" diameter hole 426 feet down. Dropped a 8 inch casing all the way down. Went through 80 feet of sand than clay gravel and hard rock. Well proofed out at 770 gpm. We only needed 100gpm for our vineyard so set a 10hp pump with 3" galvanized pipe all the way down.

Watching from the UK, that is the first time I have seen a complete well dug. I must say, that really is a very skilled job, there are so many stages and complications to it meaning you have to trust everyone to do their job - also showing the bond you have with your father. Most people don't know you want to put your primer on PVC and then the glue before the primer dries. Those bigger pipes are harder to do that with than half inch. I know also a twist helps make sure glue is spread all around. It's sweet to watch stuff like this. I. Always been fascinated with machines.

Manufacturers are now suggesting not to twist the pipe. Just bottom out in the fitting and hold it still.

I just started showing your videos to a few friends who have wells . Everyone enjoys them to the point where notes are being jotted down ( most don’t have internet and cell phones are non existent , older folks ) one of the guys asked me to check his well ( he hand dug it 50 years ago ) all I smelled was sulfur. It’s only 35’ down and lined with concreat pipe , he is located near a swamp . One friend was complaining about rusty water , I had to replace a few things at the tank ( pressure regulator , steel tube , clogged filter . Then water airraters each faucet . Water flow got better but still rusty . Well was buried under trash and I cleaned it up to see what’s in the well . What I found was 2” galvanized pipe . Told her to call a well co . It needs to be replaced . I’m thinking her well is 125’ down , as all well on this street are that deep . I’m thinking drill down to 175- 200’ to find better water

its fun watching you, I was a driller in the early 80's the company I worked for used an Ingersoll T4W and everything was a mirror image of the rig you have. what brand and model is this? I was about your age then and I remember how physical the job was. We also had some cable tool units, drilling in hard sandstone we could get 2-4' a day LOL, be thankful you have that hammer bit. 🙂. It was nice with the rotors we could also drill several hundred feet a day in normal sandstone. We also used only steel casing setti g anywhere from 20' to several hundred feet. Sometimes we lined with 4" pcv if we found sand or a fault zone after setting the initial casing.. I also see that the grouting method was different, we used cement and water and mixed it with a pneumatic drill in a 15 gallon drum :-)

It is a pleasure to watch your father and you work as a team, synchronized motions. Almost like a ballet... so to speak! Why don't you guys use a concrete placer or come-along, like concrete finishers use to pull the wet mix around? Looks like it would be more efficient than using shovels.

I tell my new employees that drilling is like a ballet! It's multiple guys working synchronized together and being very efficient and it keeps everyone safe. Eventually it becomes muscle memory

Interesting to see how you drill wells. I have drilled 35 wells that we completed, about six that were dry. It's more exciting than Las Vegas to pick a spot, hire a rig and find out if you are right. Water sands are very strange. I drilled one well that was sixty feet, moved a mile east and got nothing at 400, moved a ways and had to drill 580 feet. One well the static level is at 4 feet down, the later at 300 feet. Hard to understand. Thanks for all your work.

Can you explain how the drill works with air but you can still inject water down thru the drill rod? Is the water and air mixed on the rig and then goes thru the hammer. That doesn't seem intuitive for me that uses pneumatic tools in a mechanic shop. I realize that the scale is much larger for your hammer drill. I love you videos, I just haven't seen the topic of how the hammer works along with injection of water or foam to clear the debris the hammer chews up. Thanks!

Growing up in the 50's lived off of a well that was drilled in the 1920's... It was only 50 ft deep but in this part of Ohio this was a underground aquifer and it never ran dry....In fact there was a fire in a business across the street and the fire department hooked the well to there pumper truck to fight the fire... Never lost a foot of water in the well and used it till the city water system was put in....

Really enjoy your videos. Well put together, and I am learning a lot as I've been watching them for about a year now. This is all good information as I'm having a well drilled in the next week or so. I'm in N. Central Washington State at 4000ft (about 50 miles from Canada) and its going to be cold (mid 20's-30's) and currently have about 3in of icy/slushy snow. But the drilling crew wants to get it done. Watching these videos has given me the knowledge of what questions to ask, and to not be overly critical of the progress that may not be as quick as expected. Hopefully they get water at 200ft or so, but we have a couple wells or two about 450ft. Keep up the good work and sharing.
