I love her so much and everything she was saying went over his head because he’s obviously not informed at all to conduct this kind of interview. And he wasn’t ready to let go of his preconceived notions. So he came of as smug, closed minded and she’s talking a much broader more nuanced shift in the Arab world.

exactly, that shows her great strength with this interviewer!

totally agree, everything he said began with "ok, but...". I dont know why he was arguing with her when this was suppose to be an interview and not a debate. The way he would smile smugly at points really bothered me, Its like he was being almost patronizing. But overall, Mernessi brought up great points and shined through. I love her attitude and tone throughout the video, she wasn't discouraged by the way he was speaking to her at all and maintained a confident aura.

Really disheartening that the interviewer doesn't understand the voluntary response bias in statistics. That is why that statistic is wrong. As a writer, your job is to provide accurate information to help people, not mislead people. He just proves his own prejudice and bias behavior, generalizing all Arab people based on some dumb New York Times statistic. Also he shouldn't be interviewing if he has to interrupt Mernissi with such a defensive and accusatory demeanor. She held the interview with such poise! Thanks for sharing.
