"Blue Monday" from Fats Domino's 'Live From Austin TX' performance. Buy it today on Amazon amzn.to/1djHSK4 or iTunes smarturl.it/Fat....
First of all, like his hero Louis Armstrong a generation earlier, Fats is synonymous with New Orleans. Not to mention the early days of rock-and-roll. Who doesn't love the infectious lyrics and floating melodies of "Blueberry Hill," "Ain't That A Shame" or "Blue Monday?" Music was practically a birthright for Antoine Domino, Jr., one of nine kids from a poor family. He never made it past 4th grade, but he was already playing boogie-woogie piano.

This is a lesson in professionalism. Fats must have performed this song literally thousands of times. But he puts his whole body and soul into it, as if it were the very first time, charming the audience as if he were an artist at the start of his career. Farewell, Fats!

Wonderful! I stood over the piano when Domino and band played in Centralia, Wa. about 1962 He had two diamond stick pins in his tie. Several diamond rings. He sweated thru tan suede suit, changed clothes at the break and came out for a second show. He stayed at my parents' motel, so I met the manager, Mr. Brown, who took me up to shake Fats' hand and get an autograph at the break. A great memory that will live as long as I do.

Dave Bartholomew*, one of the architects of rock and roll, passed away at the age of 100 on June 23rd, 2019... He partnered with Fats Domino on early rock classics including co-writing “Ain’t That a Shame.” The New Orleans trumpeter, band leader, producer, songwriter, and arranger was involved in many iconic songs including “Lawdy Miss Clawdy,” “Blueberry Hill,” “I’m Walking,” and “I Hear You Knocking”... Bartholomew was band leader for one of New Orleans premier R&B bands when he became an A&R man for Imperial Records. At Imperial, he brought in Fats Domino, working with him on combining R&B with big band, jazz, and country to create early rock and roll. Bartholomew was elected to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1991... May he R.I.P. * Mr. Bartholomew was composer of "Blue Monday"...

OMG, I grew up with this legend. He was one of my first R&R loves. I think I had everyone of his 45's. My favorite is on both sides of a 45. Troubles Of My Own and ALL By Myself. Very early RR and never got aired much. Saw him in person many times and he played them both for me. Was in my glory. If anyone has those I hope they will post them here, then you can all grow to love them too. segerrocks

A thoroughly, 100% American original - America's this grand experiment. Yeah, we've made some mistakes, but guys like Fats are proof we have something good goin' too. "I think that when people want joy and fun and happiness, they want to hear the old-time rock & roll. And I'm just glad that I was a part of that. There's only a few of us left: myself, Bo Diddley, Chuck, Fats, Jerry Lee, the Everly Brothers. It's getting thin. So I think this is the last of it, the last of the good days. Soon there'll be a totally new thing. But it won't be the same. Never." --Little Richard

Several years ago, a bunch of us were spending a night in New Orleans after returning from a cruise, and we were flying home the next day. We were staying at the New Orleans Courtyard Hotel on Rampart Street, and that evening we could hear music coming from a couple blocks down. When we went to investigate, we wound up at Louis Armstrong Park and there was Fats Domino, Trombone Shorty and Bootsy Collins, with a six or seven piece accompanying band, doing a free concert. Fats was such an awesome talent.
