Fatty Liver and Heart Disease: Expert Discussion

Heart disease is the number one killer of Americans. Fatty liver disease affects 80 to 100 million adults, and the vast majority of these patients have significant risk factors for heart disease. Those with fatty liver have manifestations of metabolic syndrome which includes the following: obesity, type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, elevated cholesterol, and elevated triglycerides. Left untreated, fatty liver disease has the potential to cause cirrhosis and liver cancer. Likewise, untreated or under treated metabolic syndrome, put you at risk for significant cardiovascular disease.
