These videos are invaluable to me as someone learning electrical installation. I started in mechanical engineering, moved to control electrical, so PLCs, relays, fault finding machine panels, etc. Now getting my NVQ in electrical installation on an adult learning course. I find electrical forums are very hostile, always have been. Nobody seeming to want to share any knowledge. They don't care you have 12 years in the industry, if you don't know the current carrying capacity of every cable off by heart you're underqualified and shouldn't be anywhere near electrics. Maybe it's the same people you were talking about in the other video. And yes, old stuff from lofts and cellars is a segment I'd be interested in

Great video on methodic fault finding, one of my absolute favourite tasks! One tiny addition: the water heater MCB probably caused the RCD to trip because any large loads are likely to trip the RCD in case of a N-E fault. The first time I witnessed a fault like that it was either the chest freezer or the cooker, randomly. The actual fault was in a drowned exterior light.

Ref. to Loft finds.. In the mid 1980's I found all wrapped up in hesian an as new mint condition Lee Enfield bolt action 303 ww2 rifle... No bullets were found !! I took it down stairs to the very elderly old chap ,. He casually explained that it was his Home Guard issued weapon .. one was issued by the mod per village in 1940... It stood in his kitchen for the entire duration of the work.... God knows what happened to it afterwards.... 100 % gods honest truth.

How did the water heater MCB suddenly become external sockets on the N/E fault find?
@corynoahmac3 жыл бұрын
It was shorting through the water ingress so was intermittent. The water heater I think was tripping on start up by coincidence trying to mislead me! 😆

@@corynoahmacThanks. Still confused, I’ll watch that again.

It could just be the load, N-E faults can do odd things like this. With no load the RCD holds as N & E bars in the CU are at the same voltage hence no current flows through a N-E fault. When a load is turned on it causes current to flow in the neutral and thus it’s voltage rises slightly (owing to cable resistance), the neutral bar voltage is then higher than the earth bar and current will then flow via the N-E fault and trip the RCD. It may not even be a load on the same RCD, the same board or even in the same premises that causes this voltage difference (though as it is TN-CS it will be in the same premises as N&E are derived from the same point in the service head).
@MS-Patriot23 жыл бұрын
