Ive been swapping out pilot jets. Setting and reseting valves. Spark plugs in and out. Coils changed etc. On my '90 535. Front cylinder keeps cold and neat fuel comes from the exhaust. It backfires and pops just like this. Today I tested the rectifier regulator as a desperate resort. And, from my understanding of the readings, it is faulty. New one ordered. Let's hope it solves my issue!

Hopefully, with mine, it was above a certain RPM that the motor would misfire and run badly... In the last couple of weeks it developed a starter issue, old bikes ;-)

You do such a great job explaining basic maintenance on your bikes. Great job, as always. Eric

High installation resistance from regulator plus to battery plus or regulator minus to battery minus can destroy the regulator. The first sign is that the battery voltage in operation is lower than 14V.
@aussiewantok2 ай бұрын
mine is at like 13.1V atm...
@3FHVSP2 ай бұрын
@@aussiewantok, If it is the voltage at 3000 rpm, check the voltage on the plus and minus connectors from the regulator/rectifier. There should be 14.3 to 14.5VDC at 3000rpm. And if it's OK, check where you're losing voltage. At least 13.9V must be achieved on the battery at 3000 rpm.

Ah the regulator/rectifier. I am well versed with what that does. Hope it keeps doing whatever the hell it does.

Hey Mr. With my bikes I want to see 13.5 to 14.5 volts. 12.6 is just a standing battery, not charging...when you see 11.5 you know it's going dim

@@marscobras8281 I agree, but...the volts on display on the meter are taken off the light circuit. It's wired up to work when the lights are on...
