for the wall thing, I think it’s okay to go over 6 if your making a colonial, not every house has to be twisty and turny to be realistic, the whole idea of a colonial is flat straight walls.

to add to the chimney thing, when placing fireplaces in high ceiling rooms it looks better when you use basic shapes to extend it up to the ceiling (depending on which you use of course) just more realistic, same thing with lining up chimneys and fireplaces

I recommend using fossil color if you want a bright house but not too too bright and oyster. It could be nice if you want your house a bit dark or actual realistic lighting. Linen lighting could actually be nice if you want some cozy lighting if you ever decide to build a cottage house or cozy house.
