Hail, valiant pagans!
@ela951266 жыл бұрын
@@sarahgray430No, Sarah. YOU need to read some actual history, the history recorded and preserved by the church, without a blush of shame, of the brutality and genocide with which the "great" kings like Charlemagne and the tyrant Olaf Tryggvason forced the good news of the non-violent Jesus of the gospels on the unwilling peoples of Northern and Central Europe. The god who sent a lying spirit into the mouths of the prophets is still sending lying spirits into the mouths of those who would speak for him. For shame. Come out of this dishonorable religion that you are deceiving yourself with.
@sarahgray4306 жыл бұрын
@@ela95126 I have...Norse history is a favorite of mine. I have also read much of the history of Classical Greece and Rome and some of the history of the Near and Far East, and NONE of these societies were particularly peaceful or tolerant or egalitarian and the cults of their various deities (even the "mother Goddesses") would shock and disgust modern sensibilities. I also know that the vast majority of people persecuted by the Catholic Church (including one of my own ancestors, William de Covert) were not "pagan" but rather Jews, Muslims, and Christian heretics. The closest thing to a peaceful "pagan" society I have found in Europe are the Saami and Suomi people of Finland, who were brutally persecuted by the Swedish govrernment in the 19th Century and by the Soviet Union and bt Nazi Germany in the early 20th Century...but they were NOT persecuted at all by the Catholic Church!
@ela951266 жыл бұрын
@@sarahgray430 Although I absolutely agree with you about the truth of the church's persecution of Jews, Muslims and their own heretics --- (Constantine gave the institution of the church the legal authority to execute whoever refused to accept the codification of christian doctrine that came out of Rome --- and the church continued to wield that "moral right" for centuries - - bequeathing it as well to the reformation to use against those who continued to practice the old ways, especially in Northern Europe) in this context, it's just sidetracking from the discussion here. We cut our teeth on the myth that wherever christianity ventured, the ignorant European pagans fell down on their knees in awe of the new, enlightened True Religion and rushed to the baptismal fonts in ectasy. That's not what happened. Christianity was imposed on the great bulk of Europe by conquest, in thr worst cases, and by economic and political pressure in the best of them. It was imposed from the top down, in spite of valiant resistance. I do not judge any culture by its violence or non-violence, per se. I SO judge the institution whose alleged founder was clearly non-violent (!) for the betrayal of their own principles... for abandoning their founder's vision of being the kingdom of heaven on earth as soon as they were offered the lure of temporal power...and for their unjustifiable claim to hold the moral high ground. Truth is a form justice. It's the only form left to the dead. We probably could talk all night, a lot of common historical interests. You are welcome to email me at anderson at Tiwaz Press dot com if you like, Sarah. Thanks for yout articulate reply.

It is. I can understand about three words of it and after reading some simpler old poems I know there are quirks and artistic freedoms aplenty. In these four lines I am experiencing some difficulties in parsing "profunda" because it seems to be an adjective. If "in" here is "into" then + ackusative which would make "profunda" ackusative neuter plural, but still an adjective. Is there a precedent or does "profunditates" simply not rhyme very whell? And since I'm at it was "c" sometimes (or later than 'classical' latin) pronounced "ts" rather than "k"? It's a nice and catchy tune either way = )

I'm from Brazil, a country where people speak Portuguese, a language similar to Italian / French / Spanish; that is, it comes from Latin. Natternkopf Sonnenkönig I'm sorry to just stumlbe in here, but I don't think what you or the other guys say is completely true. Let's start with Christianity (I don't know a lot about Judaism or the Islam, so I'm focusing on Christianity) the bread indeed symbolises Jesus' body, and the wine Jesus' blood. It has also the meaning that he and God in this case feed the people. While Pagans don't sacrifice humans or any animals in that matter in this time, things were different in the past. Humans and animals have been sacrificed for the religion, and I've seen the results of it myself. I think every religion has its own beauty and morals, but every religion also has a violent side, which can't be denied. I myself am a Christian, and I really believe Jesus has died for my sins, although I doubt it sometimes. Paganism does fascinate me though. I've done some browsing and I got in the library, and I understand why people follow it, but it's just not for everyone.
@naylonsirket61557 жыл бұрын
