Amazing video. Would like to know what paonts you used? I have gathered brown acrulic coloyr. Although I have seen the whole video but could you repeat the steos as you've mentioned to coat the faux leather after paonting brown and you skipped it. So is it?? Hi. Thanks for sharing this tutorial. Should we set the hot iron to any particular temperature? Mine has settings like cotton, silk, etc.

You are SOOOO Smart... I am so going to use this for my Bookbinding for my book: "Billy the Kid: Little Black Book of Secrets" .... I love your idea... AND... I was wondering, when we make Props for our films... we use Shoe Polish..... Do you think this would work on your foam too? ... (Shoe Polish give Leather a Normal Shine)... ;)

+Judi Christopher I am sure it would work as long as you can wipe most of it away leaving the polish behind into the cracks. I've never tried it as acrylic paint is simple to use and easily accessible. Might just have to give polish a try!

I'm going to use this technique to make a vinyl covered box I own into a 'leather' box. What would you use to glue the foam to the vinyl?

I am very new to this and was wondering is EVA craft foam the same as Darice craft foam sheets?

I had the idea to strengthen the "leather" with some fabric on the back, do you think I would still be able to heat form largish (to make a layered leather chest) foam after leathering it?

+Lorenz Rainbird I would personally recommend creating the armor in the shape you want it first and then use the thinner and easier to shape "leather" on it as an additional layer.

Can I heaten up the foam with heat gun and then press the wrinkled aluminum foil to the foam? thanks

+nixland Yes, that would work. The only issue with that is heating up larger pieces. If you pass over a section you have already textured with additional heat, the texture will go away. An Iron works best but the heat gun idea works too if you are careful.

+X3NO You should be able to do it with a heat gun. I've never tried it myself but the theory is the same. I'd suggest heating it up well and pressing the foil down (hard) into the foam with a solid object, like a book, to get the pattern pressed in good.
