This project demonstrates a faux wood grain technique on a stair rail, or banister. However, this same technique can be applied to a variety of surfaces.

Nice work. I did my 1st faux-job recreating a marble top and turned out great, but have a wood grained project coming up and this was a great inspiration on how to do it.

Wow, this looks great! I think if I'm going to do this, I will first practice on the banister to the basement. That way, if I screw it up I can just paint it solid and move on.

I painted the base coat on a Friday evening, and I did the graining the next morning. So about 12 hours. You should wait several days to put any kind of clear finish on it. Thanks

You are a great artist! Thank you for the video. Would love to know how long it takes to dry and if you let it dry between steps. Thanks!

Holy difficult!!!!! You're an artist at this stuff. Would you happen to have a list of the paint colours and brands one would need to complete this project? I might give it a go, but it looks SCARRRRRRRY!!!! Thanks, Michael!!!!!!!!

Very beautiful work! You said that you used oil-based paint. I was wondering, what brand and colors did you use?
