I received my A1 yesterday, and it makes horrible noise from the X-Axis. Almost like a broken bearing. Bambu support just adviced me it is completely normal: “What you are hearing are the bearings inside the MGN block of the linear rail. The bearings have a certain preload which makes them more precise, but slightly louder compared to other bearings. Please note though that this is normal it expected.” I don’t have this issue on my A1 mini, have you had these issues on your A1?

Dude, this. I've built the majority of printers I've had, and have even designed my own from scratch with all the bells and whistles. And you know what? I love the Bambu printers because I can focus on design and not on constantly fiddling with a printer. Ha. I got into a semi-argument with a fella over it, because he argued against things like the bambu, when trying to recommend a printer to a new user. But you can buy the cheap one and upgrade it and have control over every aspect! And it was just like yeah, but what if the user doesn't want to have to do any of that and just wants to design?!

This. I had an OG makerbot and it was amazing for the first month, then I kept re-learning the lesson that everyone makes printers that you spend too much time fixing. I basically stopped trying to 3d printing things years ago as I got sick of the fiddling. In my 20s I would be happy to geek out on this stuff, but now I can find better use for my time. Thanks Bambu.

Bambu printers are currently a good option but the Bambu founder idolizes Apple and puts patents on everything. We will have to see how things pan out but I'm guessing that in the long run Bambu will follow the Apple playbook: proprietary patents, lack of spare parts, and making people replace their "old printers" every few years.

Listening about user vs tinker, and you hit the nail on the head!! I have been doing this with the resin printers since 2018, and when I needed to do working on the machine, talking with enthusiasts made me feel absolutely dumb, I hated to work with calibrating and replacing screens and such. Reading that tinkering commentary turned me off Filament printers for a long while. I just wanna print something to do a project with, I don't want to fiddle!! This is awesome!

In fairness to Bambu they called the earlier model the A1 mini which implied there would be an A1 non-mini since there was no such thing as an A1 in their lineup before the mini. It only took me a tiny bit of research to find that they were indeed going to release a full sized A1 and to wait for it.

Bambu ran into bad optics like this in the past. They had a sale on the P1P that got a lot of people to pull the trigger then announced the P1S shortly afterward when those ordering the P1P paid for the upgrades to basically make it a P1S minus a few things. I think the issue with the A1/Mini is that they came out with the mini first, instead of the full size. Based on the timeline it seems like they could have easily avoided this issue by either announcing the A1 was coming soon when they released the Mini, or by simply releasing them both at the same time.

I think the A1 would be an awesome starter printer. I have the bigger brother printers from Bambu, but if it's that same kind of tech and craftsmanship. Others might argue you down to cheaper printers, and they aren't bad, but it's like was said in this video. A lot of those other printers are just the same ol with their styling slapped on. They don't have the same craftsmanship or quality that a company like Bambu puts into their printers. These Bambu printers are on the top of my list when recommending to new users that aren't interested in endlessly fiddling with printer mechanics, and just want something that works so they can focus on design.

@@HarveyVarietyHour i agree with the easy of use and the pure workhorse mentality of the bambu printers but id shell out that little bit extra for the p1p instead of the a1 for a couple of reason. 1. Bedslingers are notorious for producing artifacts printing at medium to high speed. 2. Bedslingers require more countertop space. 3. If you later on get an AMS for the p1p it also acts as a drybox for your available filaments. 4. You have a better upgrade path to a p1s with the upgrade kit for the p1p. You could push it to almost x1c level though no carbon tubes and big screen. On the other hand if you want to tinker a little bit there are some great deals to be made, but i fully understand that, that isnt for everyone. I tinker a lot with some of my printers but my x1 is my stock workhorse that will never be out of service except light maintainance. Ive recently acquired a k1 max from creality since they can now be rooted and i can run stock klipper + whatever upgrades i feel like on it with the added bonus that the 300x300 bed on the k1 max gives me just that bit more room i wish for in the x1c. Thats just my two cents though and experiences may vary.

Thats the biggest point of Bambu , is the user experience. So far I am also having that with my K1 Max and Ender 3 V3 KE as well with Creality Print. I will most likely get the A1 without the AMS lite as I dont do much Multicolor printing and I have my P1S combo for that anyway. I will use it like a production machine with the P1S in Orca. Nice review. I'm definitely in both worlds. I make a lot of models for parts to support my other hobbies and love being able to quickly iterate designs of useable prints without having to mess with the printer. I also have several printers that have been torn down to every nut and bolt over the years and reassembled with the cool new part-of-the-month, most recently getting things converted over to e3D's Revo ecosystem (which is glorious for reinvigorating an old V6 nozzle printer IMO). I agree that there are 2 separate hobbies of printing 3D models and tinkering with 3D printers.

My safety word is "UX" ;) Honestly, this is such a good review for me purely because of the distinction you make between a printer hobbyist and a printed items hobbyist... it's always very hard to sus out user friendliness from the average 3d printer review, probably because the people making these reviews are so into the machinery part of it they no longer can see it from the perspective of a novice. I have two printers and the maintenance part always bums me out so much I just hit this road block of postponing it until it turns into me not using the machine at all anymore... simply because of the level of knowledge you're expected to have! I'm too dumb for it imo, so this easier "just scan the code" approach would work very well for me. Putting Bambu on my list now!
@kaasmeester5903
@kaasmeester5903 9 ай бұрын
That's a good way of seeing it. This video mentions that most other printers look like hobby products while the Bambu machines look like consumer products, but... that is mostly looks. I remember tinkering endlessly with an old RepRap just to get it to even finish a print, but is that still really the case for the more recent machines? My current printer (Prusa MK4) looks rather industrial but it's been rock solid and I have not had to tinker with it at all. Plug and play. I've a few friends with slightly older models from various brands, and they haven't had to do much maintenance on them either. My safety word is: WAF. If the wife can use it, it's good. And she can. Has no problems using modern slicer software, loading up the printer, and producing stuff. It's nice and all that you can scan a barcode on the filament spool and scan a code to look up error conditions of the printer, but in the long run it's FAR more useful to actually understand the properties of the materials you're working with, and understand what is going on with the machine when it fails a print. Looks and cutesy UI touches only get you so far, what matters in the end is how well the printer hardware will hold up, and how reliably it prints. So far, the Bambu stuff seems to do well on that score but they are certainly not the only ones. Where Bambu is killing it IMHO is value for money. I'm considering a second small printer for fast prototypes while the main printer is working on other prints, and the A1 Mini is looking pretty good for the price. Even if I despise the Bambu business model.

Automatic bed leveling and z-axis offset is one of the highlights. The only thing you have to do is the leveling process once, slice your design (I use Cura that already has a profile for this printer) and print away. And all of that for under $200. Maybe I take a look at Bambu stuff later (although the whole proprietary stuff does not sit well with me at all), but certainly not in the short therm. Why should I? @@makinganemone You won't get much from this excellent video. Watch it more carefully. Also, there are way more people who just want to print their things than those who enjoy modding with their printer. That's why Prusa's market share will be dramatically cut by Bambu. My safety word is "thank you." I'm a 3D printing enthusiast and have been printing since 2012, when the first 3D printers came out. My first printer was a RepRap. I have been looking for a video that might change my mind about purchasing a Bambu printer because I was suspicious about their specs and claims. Unfortunately, over the years, we have been misled and lied to by various vendors and companies who couldn't deliver on their promises. This made me very skeptical about buying a Bambu printer. However, after watching your video, I decided to go ahead and buy it. I run a small 3D printing farm with 12 printers, and I was totally amazed by the results. It just works, and as you mentioned, many features were as expected. Thanks for your content and your video.

I've been thinking of getting my kid an A1 mini for his birthday in a couple months. I woke up for work today to take a look as I periodically do, only to be confused as to why the A1 went up in price by $100. I immediately closed the web page and started reconsidering the purchase. Not until later today and seeing this video did I realize there was a new larger A1 on the block. Now I'm considering spending the extra 100 for him.

Been 3d printing for 5 years, started with an Anet and then Creality. Did a bit own design based upgrades. Just got an A1 mini and they come with the additional heatbed that fixes the heat bed cable fault issue. This is worth every penny you are spending. And I like tinkering and do enjoy printer hacking. But this printer just gets it done and so much easy that we can focus on the print than the printer. I waited a good 6 months before buying for the company to fix any launch issue. Based on my experience with this unit over 6 months, I plan to get an X1 Carbon next year.

I think the A1 will be my next printer over getting another p1p It might take up more space but being more quiet is what I'm most excited about Close second is that the core-XY frame is constantly in the way of doing things like nozzle swaps It's just such an inconvenient size to work in So an open design (bed slinger) that "just works" is exactly what I'll go for I will wait 3-4 months to see if they come out with a bigger bed size though A1 max sounds promising Being flat packed it's cheaper (for shipping and packaging) to size this printer up than a core-XY printer

My safety word is "nakedasscapturedonthea1" 😂. I got my mini only last week and don't regret it. The mini was to replace my MK3S, which was obviously bigger, but only used for small parts after the X1C came along. The MK3S was dated in comparison to the mini and it was becoming increasingly 'needy'. I didn't want the noise of my X1C banging away for smaller prints, and the mini was the ideal size to get my kids involved in printing, so I took the plunge. The parts coming off it are better than the X1 and it hasn't skipped a beat whilst printing the war rig from mad max. The A1 mini has a better motion system than the A1, so I'm confident that I made the right choice and probably wouldn't have gone for the A1 anyway.

i contacted support twice previously regarding the bed ramming onto the base and stalls the motor, just a firmware issue mind you and not a hardware one, and it was fixed soon after, response was also relatively quick taking at most 24 hours, and from the way they reply, you can tell that the support personal was actually knowledgeable about 3d printing or about the printer, and doesnt just give you some BS textbook response, i just love it.

I'm not against the "printer as a hobby" mentality, I'm just over it and want to print useful things without tinkering. I am glad I waited though, with the current ongoing recall. This A1 seems like a pretty awesome bed slinger aside from the launch hiccup that I'm sure they'll rectify. I was considering a P1P, but at $200 more it would need to have a bigger bed for me to choose it over the A1.

I completely agree with you on this video and the previous video talking about what Bambu Lab got right. They have upended the industry with their ecosystem of "I just want to print!!!" I started with a Creality Ender 3 S1 Pro, with the thought of "I just want to print this! And that! Oooohhhh I can finally print things that I used to machine out of aluminum or brass so much easier!!!" But alas that wasn't how it turned out. I spent months and months, rolls and rolls of filament, hardware upgrades, tweaking firmware, etc. just to get good engineering prints (never really did). I wasted more filament printing "test prints" than actual printing. I finally threw up my hands and just ordered a X1 Carbon. Since then, all I have been doing is printing, other peoples models, my designs, tweaking them as I go, and I haven't been happier. It JUST WORKS. The issues I have had... My faults, thinking I knew better or just clumsy and broke things (but was able to get parts so easy). I did have a faulty LIDAR though... but technical support made it right by sending me a new unit (AWESOME JOB). It is a shame that they released this unit so soon. But you were on the mark of "It happens". It's been that way for a long time in every industry, especially technology. P.S. My safe word is "Keep going."

I also don't want to spend too much time learning how to 3D print. Will I be able to print decent paintable minis at 35mm scale with this? I am concerned about the comparison between Bambu and Iphone because I don't want to feel trapped in a specific software ecosystem.

I think a lot of people overestimate the bed size they need. Sure bigger must be better, but how often are you really utilizing the extra space? Is 76mm really going to break you? The smaller bed is less mass to move so in theory it can go faster. I've been rocking a prusa mini since its launch and I have to say there has been only a handful of things I have actually needed a bigger bed for. 99% of my prints fit just fine in that smaller footprint. I wont be getting a bambu for a few reasons but I'm glad they're here raising the bar. I cant wait for others to follow suit. We're witnessing a paradigm shift in printing tech. As a prusa fanboy, go bambu labs... what a time to be alive.
