My choice for 1975 is possibly my favourite album of all time, the multi-layered, exquisite masterpiece that is *’The Hissing of Summer Lawns’* by Joni Mitchell. I honestly think if she were male, she’d be rated higher than Dylan, Young and all the rest. The woman is a total lyrical and musical genius who made probably the greatest run of albums by any artist between 1967 and 1980. Runner up - *’Physical Graffiti’* by Led Zeppelin.
@keithode17374 жыл бұрын
Correct. If she were a man she'd be good enough at writing, performing and singing music to be considered among the best. The Heart sisters and Joan Jett are rare examples of good female rock musicians, and they aren't in the top 100.

Neil Young - Tonight's The Night My favorite Neil Young album. One of the most heart-breaking and raw-sounding albums I know. “I’m singing this borrowed tune, I took from the Rolling Stones/Alone in this empty room, too wasted to write my own,” the way he sings these lines to a melody he borrowed from the Jagger/Richards composition “Lady Jane” literally brings me to tears every time. Not even gonna lie, you remind me alot of my friend, DJ Joey. He was my music guru/mentor and it'll be 2 years in August since he passed away but I think about him all the time. It's still strange feeling like the torch was passed to me as people started asking for my knowledge. I've discovered a few things here and there, but you bring my best friend back every time I watch your videos and I've learned alot from you the last 6 months. Thanks Pete for bringing back my friend.

You just had to bring up the curse, didn't you .. Seriously, Boston sports were so much more fun when they didn't win everything...except the Celtics, but the Magic/Kareem/Scott Lakers were, ahem, Worthy opponents, and just as frequently victorious...

Mister Schubert - Heh heh. Well Yr BoSox got me back when they beat my Rockies in a sweep in 2007. Heck, the 200O’s have been good to you .Didn’t ya just win again in 2018? Always liked the Celts-the Bird years. I’m down in Tampa now, so we’ll have to see if Brady & Gronk can bring some of that ’Magic’ down this way.

Nope it wasn't the greatest world series ever. 2004 when the Red Sox won after 86 years was the greatest World Series in baseball history especially when they beat the Yankees 4 games straight min ALCS. So I respectfully disagree. You could say the Cubs are a close second.

The manner in which you explain how an album ages, and how often you go with it now as opposed to back in the day is truly what we all go through. You picked the best album of the year! Physical Graffiti.

Horses - Patti Smith I was actually having a difficult time debating between two artists who both came out with debut albums during the same year. Both of them are my favorite creative, musical, quirky people, XD. Now, Pete, I know you're not a fan of punk music. Neither am I, but I decided to go with my gut and choose Patti Smith's debut punk album Horses. It was the mid to late 70s when punk was becoming a vast underground movement. Deeply rooted in 1960s garage rock, punk was an anti-establishment musical movement that rejected mainstream music, whether it was Disco and Mainstream Rock (Arena Rock). Both punk and heavy metal developed a musical style that was associated with a lot of attitude and aggression. Just like what The Troubador did for the singer-songwriters of the early 70s, CBGB (Country, Bluegrass, Blues, and Other) became a trendy venue where a lot of up and coming punk and new wave artists got discovered. One of those people who performed at CBGB lots of times back then was Patti Smith. I found her music/performances when I was in my last 2 years of high school. Although I'm not a fan of her vocal performance, she has openly admitted that she isn't a singer, she is a performer. What really drew me to her music was the fact that she combined punk with her poetry and made it sound more artistic. It was something that I've never really heard before, and I found it both beautiful and very intriguing. Patti Smith was coming at a time when it was still hard for women to make it in the music industry as hard rock/heavy metal/punk/blues singers. I have a deep respect for her as an artist and as a person:) Highlights: Gloria: In Excelsis Deo Redondo Beach Free Money Kimberly Land Jaco Pastorius (self-titled album) - Jaco Pastorius I didn't wanna put Jaco in the runner ups list because I felt like it would've been unfair, and disrespectful (musically), in my opinion. I only recently found out about Jaco Pastorius through Robert Trujillo's documentary JACO (btw, if you haven't seen it. I recommend that you watch the documentary because you'll learn a lot about Jaco Pastorius as both a musician and a person). A lot of bass players considered Jaco their Jimi Hendrix, which totally makes sense when you hear him play. In fact, Jaco used to play Third Stone from the Sun during the Weather Report concerts lol. This man was a gifted musician, as well as a legend and a genius. I loved his spiky, punk attitude, even though he was a jazz musician. It really showed how confident he was. Jaco ripped the rules on playing the bass and developed a sound that you would've never seen bassists before him, do. He invented the fretless bass. The story was that he wanted to get a lively, upright, jazz sound from his 1962 Fender Precision, so he asked a friend of his if Jaco could borrow a knife, and he started taking the frets off. Thus the fretless was born. Jaco became known for treating the bass as if it was the singer, the lead guitar, or the horn section. His use of harmonics is something that has never been done before and will never be done again. He wasn't afraid of playing all kinds of music, whether it was Jazz, Funk, RnB, Rock, Country, Blues, Latin, you name it. Some of his best work was when he played with people like Ian Hunter, Blood Sweat, and Tears, Joni Mitchell, Pat Metheny, Mike Stern, Herbie Hancock, Toots Thieleman, etc. Not only was he a fantastic bass player, but he was also an incredible composer. I mean, the melodies that he created were gorgeous. He was just an excellent musician with a sad soul. Jaco dealt with a lot of mental health issues (manic depression/bipolar disorder), which in his later years, you could start to tell through his music and physicality. Unfortunately, he used a lot of self-destructive behaviors, which ended up with him being murdered at a Carlos Santana concert. He will never be forgotten, and his music still lives on today through his son Felix. R.I.P. Jaco :( P.S Although Jaco was born in Pennsylvania, I'm glad to find out that he grew up as a proud Floridian. I am from Florida, and I found it very cool that we had our own musical legend who grew up in my state:) Highlights: Portrait of Tracy Continuum Come On, Come Over Okonkole Y Trompa Donna Lee Runner ups: A Night at the Opera - Queen Wish You Were Here - Pink Floyd Young Americans - David Bowie Welcome to my Nightmare - Alice Cooper Fleetwood Mac (self-titled) - Fleetwood Mac The Hissing of Summer Lawns - Joni Mitchell

This year was super easy for me, no matter how many other fantastic albums that came out in '75, my choice is also - Led Zeppelin - Physical Graffiti. Can't put into words how much I love this album, the very fact that it was a 2 disc set with more material just makes it all the more awesome. BUT, again, there were many other excellent choices that year........ Tony Williams Lifetime - Believe It Bruce Springsteen - Born To Run Fleetwood Mac - S/T Bob Dylan- Blood On The Tracks Aerosmith - Toys In The Attic Kiss - Alive Kansas - Masque Black Sabbath - Sabotage Rush - Fly By Night Chris Squire - Fish Out of Water Foghat - Fool For The City Ted Nugent - S/T Budgie - Bandolier Jeff Beck - Blow By Blow

Bonham’s drumming on this album is out of this world. This is my favorite Zeppelin album as well. Favorite from ‘75 would be this or Wish You Were Here. Toys in the Attic was amazing as well and I have to throw a Steely Dan Album in, Katy Lied is massively underrated and I love it. Boston’s debut is my guess for your 1976 pick.

This year was a easy for me: Physical Graffiti - "near" musical perfection;under the rock prism of time. My honorable mention: Beautiful Loser by Bob Seger - one of America's greatest songwriters & straight-forward performers! Two different animals,but there are certain artists that just unlock the inner-most desires,observations,sensibilities,discoveries within yourself. The good thing: Both dive deep into music expression,yet are knee-deep in the blues. 👍's on this series,Pete!!!

1975 one of my favourite years, I think it produced better albums than 1971. My number one pick is an album given to grown up issues that my 2nd pick evades. The album by the greatest lyricist Rock has produced deals with his separation from his wife with all the emotions that situation entails. 1. Blood On The Tracks - - - Bob Dylan 2. Born To Run - - - Bruce Springsteen 3. The Hissing Of Summer Lawns - - - Joni Mitchell. 4. The Who By Numbers - - - The Who 5. Wish You Were Here - - - Pink Floyd 6. Physical Graffiti - - - Led Zeppelin ( dropped 3 places due to fact had out-takes from earlier years same as Stones' Tattoo You in 81) 7. Young Americans - - - David Bowie 8. Horses - - - Patti Smith 9. Tonight's The Night - - - Neil Young 10. Captain Fantastic And The Brown Dirt Cowboy - - - Elton John Honorable Mentions. It’s a really tough choice for me between Wish You Were Here, A Night at the Opera and Physical Graffiti. I’m gonna go with Wish You Were Here simply because of how amazing Shine On You Crazy Diamond is, but it’s tough voting against The Prophet’s Song, Bohemian Rhapsody, Kashmir, Ten Years Gone, and a whole load of other amazing songs on those other two albums.

Good pick Pete...'Ten Years Gone' has some of Page's most perfectly layered guitar work. My list includes: Dylan's 'Blood on The Tracks'; Pink Floyd's 'Wish You Were Here" and 'Sabotage' by Black Sabbath which has my favourite Sabbath piece 'The Thrill of it All"; Nazareth's 'Hair of The Dog', ELo's 'Face the Music' and The Who's 'By Numbers' each get an honourable mention. Queen - A Night At The Opera, 10/10 Runner Up : Rush - Fly By Night, 9/10 I use a sophisticated rating system to help when albums are so close. Each song gets 1-3 points. 1= ok, 2= good, 3= great. Add points up and divide by number of songs to get an average. Multiply by 4 gives you rating on a 10 scale. :)

Wow. I do the exact same thing and that's how I rate the albums. It takes a long time but I'm glad that I've done this with ELO and currently I'm working on Alan Parsons Project. I've done Genesis and a few others but not all the albums just greatest hits. There aren't a lot of artists that I have every single solitary album accept ELO and Alan Parsons and journey. The other one is Sammy Hagar with Van Halen and good portion of the Sammy solo albums.
