This is the video I was looking for! I've recently been into the realistic hair and I needed best pencil recommendations for it. Thanks!

I'm happy to hear it helped! These are definitely my go to's and while I do take tutorial requests for other brands, these are the ones you'll see me use in lives and finished pages more because I just love them.

I just snagged the procolours for a birthday present to me. I saw on another channel in comments someone said they were also good for shading and highlighting over Derwent Inktense. Yay! Thanks for the link!
@ColorfullyOptimistic2 жыл бұрын
Yes! They could totally work for that.

You just have to dive in and start :). Back in the day my hair wasn't pretty and I still have so much to improve now!

I was so intimidated with hair, still am, but now it's extremely calming for me to just flick away. I have to tell myself it's just paper and I can always start over again if I mess up or don't like it. LOL. Makes it much less intimidating. Plus watching Kori's videos helps relax me too.

Hair is something I want to start trying this year. Last night I spent some time browsing Etsy for all sorts of coloring pages. Maybe that will spur me to start.

Like you, I store my Lightfast with my Lumies. I also store my Procolours with my Polys. The shades or transitional colors missing in one, I find in the other. They all suit my type of coloring. I love to layer for days.😁

Oh gosh woman. The only layering you see from me is skin and then flicking in for hair. Outside of that, I avoid haha.

I haven’t tried pablos for hair yet! I got the set relatively recently but now I’d like to test them out more. Usually, I just use polychromos for hair and maybe some luminance to add vibrancy. I don’t have derwent lightfast or procolours. I tried a couple procolours open stock and disliked them, haha. But I see they have some specific uses. I may pick some up open stock in lightfast colors specifically and try them out next time I do a portrait! Im impressed at how those details show through with the procolours in your artwork

Yea the Procolour is great for hair but anything else not so much. Polys are always good. Excellent range and good their point well. Pablo's have been really good! They may go up further on the list soon!

Have you ever tried the Tombow Orojitin pencils? They are also quite hard and hold a point well. Also, the color palette is different from other pencil sets with some beautiful jewel tones.

LOL. The pablos are really nice for hair. In this week's WIP Wednesday I was using them.

When you use colored paper vs. white paper does that make a difference in your color choices? In other words, would you use the same colors with white paper vs. different colored paper?
@ColorfullyOptimistic2 жыл бұрын
Nope. Not really. I use the same colors. They will just look different on the two papers but I still use my same favorite colors

Did you ever make that video about how you pick pencils to create a hair color? Or is it still coming? You mentioned wanting to do that in the end of this video. I check your channel and perhaps I overlooked it, but I can’t find it. Thanks in advance.

Jaw dropped! Pablo’s are wax- based?! Who knew (other than you and Caran D’Ache😉)?! Thanks for another very helpful video, I really appreciate that you reference adjectives like “creamy and soft” to a particular pencil brand and don’t throw the terms around arbitrarily, as I think a lot of colorists do; gives us, your subscribers, realistic expectations for what we might like to try/purchase.
@ColorfullyOptimistic2 жыл бұрын
Yes, when I spoke to CD they said while all pencils are oil/wax of course, they don't make an oil-based pencil in their products and have no plans to, and that the Pablos were in fact a wax-based pencil. So, more wax than oil

Beautiful. I wonder if you ever tried coloring hair with Arteza since I heard they hold their point very well. I was thinking it may be a cheap alternative to procolors.
@ColorfullyOptimistic2 жыл бұрын
I have, but they are definitely not going to replace Procolour. Procolour is very very hard. Arteza is too waxy and soft and they won't hold the point like a Procolour. Instead, I would go with Black Widow, Polys, or another hard core lead.

As a basis for comparison, are Procolour as hard or harder than Crayola classic kid's pencils? I know the comparison is a bit wonky, but... I'm actually looking for a hard pencil set, that's a decent quality. Do the Procolour still sharpen easily?
@ColorfullyOptimistic2 жыл бұрын
I haven't used the Crayolas in a long time and don't have the classic ones here to even compare to. Procolour are very hard. Honestly, I'd only use them for hair/fur detailing. For other coloring, they are very very difficult to work with. They do sharpen really well and rarely break.
@colourcharm14012 жыл бұрын
@@ColorfullyOptimistic Thanks. Very hard is actually exactly what I'm looking for. With my bad hand, even Polychromos are too soft for details. But, I'm stuck with coloring as my only hobby. I'd have to save for a very long time for these, though.

Thanks for all the info! I feel like if people are down to Procolour or Black Widow, I would say BW, because you can use them for other coloring too. Those Procolour, while great for hair are soooo hard for coloring anything else. 🙃 Take care!

I'm very sorry to hear that. This is the first time anyone has ever said that to me, and honestly, I do talk a lot with my hands, but that's because you don't see my face, but I'm kind of confused about moving my hands too much. I was displaying pencils and showing images, and I have to move my hands to do that. Either way, sorry to hear this.
