Another great show w/The HVS’s! For me , greatest vocal performance, it all comes back to Queen II. Every Freddie Mercury song on this record, but particularly “White Queen( as it began)” which gave me goosebumps back then and it still does to this day.Maybe it was just the period of time for me , but there was nothing like this back then and it certainly was a sign if things come. With the second, Queen had developed a unique sound and identity and just went for it on this great record. BTW Pete, you triggered a memory...One day I was listening to “ In The Court if the Crimson King” as a teen in the ‘70’s on our family record player in the living room.During “Epitaph “ my father walked in and asked me if I knew what an epitaph was. On the spot and embarrassed, I didn’t. I did look it up moments later.

My choices could change all the time but one way out in left field in Leon Russell on Stranger in A Strange Land from the album 'And The Shelter People'. It touches my deep south raising and sounds like a preacher and his choir singing it to all who will listen. And glad to hear Love Reign O'er My by The Who make the list somewhere. Although I'm not a big fan of this band, I think that Freddie Mercury vocal performances are one of the best in the history of rock music, maybe even in popular music in general. His vocals, studio or live are just astounding in terms of range, power. emotion, expression etc. Also, his ability to create amazing vocal harmonies, especially in 'Bohemian Rhapsody' back in 70s where there wasn't any digital trickery is just crazy. Tracks like 'Barcelona', 'Who Wants to Live Forever', 'Show Must Go On', 'We Are The Champions', I mean, these are all hymns in every single way. By the way, thanks for mentioning Devin Townsend, big inspiration.

I remember hearing this song for the first time and trying to copy him...it was between this or Separate Ways which always shredded my throat after singing it Steve is THAT good!! 2. Finding My Way - Rush: The debut is ironically the first Rush album I heard...and when I heard that high pitch wail I freaked!! Wow I wanted to sound like this and at 13 years old, I bloody could!! 3. Child In Time - Deep Purple: My idol what can I say, like Steve and Geddy, I wanted to sound like him in every which way I could and this was high notes done in a way like I had never known. Like the other two songs I sang my heart out trying to sound like him and those screams!! I literally had to wait for an empty house to belt them out...I hope someone out there still gives this song some welly, Ronnie Romero does a great job but something was missing in my opinion. So there you have it, thank you so much again Pete and the gang for kicking of my weekend in style! :) Nick

Great choices, and many brought back great memories! My adds: -James Dewar, Long Misty Days (Robin Trower) -Robert Plant, Immigrant Song (the opening screams are an instrument all their own) -Steve Perry, Open Arms -Queen, Bohemian Rhapsody

I may get slammed but Robert Plant Sea of Love (Honey Drippers). For some reason I love the 50's kind of tone he does.

I know I'm super late to the game but here's my list: 1. Paul Stanley: Take Me Away (Together As One)/1978 solo album 2. Bruce Dickinson: Revelations/Piece Of Mind 3. Geddy Lee: Anthem/Fly By Night I don't think Paul Stanley ever topped his performance on that particular song. I love the lyrics to Revelations and the fact that Bruce wrote them. It feels like you can feel the sorrow in his voice so deeply when he sings, 'and the seed was sewn in a holy place, and I watched and I waited for the dawn.' Geddy sounds so self assured on 'Anthem'. These three songs were the first to come to my mind of the many vocal performances that I enjoy.

Great show again guys and girls! Almost every singer was mentioned in the end. One honorable mention: I have always loved all the vocal harmonies by Stryper.
