In the mid-90s, 22 banks were robbed by the same gang across Mid-West America. As the FBI investigated they found the bank bandits were members of a White Supremacist Terror Group, the Aryan Republican Army. The search for the racist bank robbers lead to a shootout between the FBI and another suspect.
The FBI Files is an American television docudrama series. Each episode describes actual FBI cases which include murder, narcotics, bank robberies, and kidnapping as well as other crimes. These are portrayed through dramatic reenactments and interviews with agents and forensic scientists who worked on the investigations.

If I interpreted the video correctly, the criminal was in van with the engine raised a little higher than say a sedan. If the criminal ducked down behind the engine block, he would be protected from a frontal assault. Agents to the side and rear would have been held their fire for a number of reasons. Maybe not all the rounds would have been directed at the suspect; in other words, directed at the engine block to disable the vehicle so the suspect could not drive away. So, yes, the suspect could have avoided being hit by 50 rounds.

If they were each on opposite sides of the van and fired into it while trying to hit the bank robber wouldn't the bullets travel right through it and exit the van possibly hitting the agents on the side. And vice versa with those agents firing their rounds that travel through the van only to make contact with those agents. 😮
